    Hello All!

After 2.66 years, I am reviewing the dead echoes, am only through the C's and the death tolls are high, most have traffic as recent as Aug to Oct 2011, most auto posts, while others are knock knock posts.

    More to follow..

Okay I identified 93 dead echoes....

    207 - 93 = 114

    45% mortality

However, 114 echoes is not all that bad for a network our size..

As a Hotel, we dont need so many rooms anymore!

I will publish the list later on.

Muffin dropped out of backbone.na but 10th_amd remains.
That echo seems to be a globally distributed bad messages

    I didnt drop yahoonews...

Essentially if an echo had any 2012 traffic, I skipped over..

I dropped YAHOONEWS probably in the prior purge which was probably June/July 2009..

I cannot realistically expect that you or Bob thoroughly followed up on the prior purges or this one, BACKBONE.DST is a record of echoes that have been removed since I began this process.

btw, if I followed the criteria used by the original NAB or the Z1B, backbone.na would have less than 50 echoes and that is not even factoring in the echolist!!

Why I think the old methodology is too anal for todays Fidonet, I do have a expectation which is not unreasonable that when a link areafixes "+*" they get a bunch of echoes with coherent activity..

With that said, if YAHOONEWS revived itself, then someone forgot to tell Mr NAB
Robot, aka moi.. I would have gladly relisted it in BACKBONE.NA, then added it back into my setup and discovered traffic!!! Looks like the moderator dropped the ball here, its not like as the NAB ROBOT I am as quiet as a church mouse, wouldnt you agree?

Soap box mode off, no offense intended.. :-)

Was wondering about that. I didn't really pay attention to

<rotfl> IT is though, we find out waht's broken. WOuld
probably be a good idea for mods who really care to send out a test about once a year in their echoes requesting all the
major echomail movers to reply if they're connected, that
way we as mods can chase broken links ourselves, take the
    weight off the backbone admin.
GUess the onus is really on us as mods to do that, but a
process such as Ross's backbone audits helps too.

i may have to send an AF request for it... it is possible that it got dropped some years back due to software changes or problems on other systems... i've never seen my system just drop areas for no reason... i'll try to get one out in a minnit...

i also noted a drop message for fido-req which has had daily activity with all the other newly arrived files areas... i have a netmail off to the uplink about

I seem to recall when yahoonews was added?????

Whenever I added an echo to the backbone, the first thing I do is place it in my hub cfgs and auto add my fellow nab peers, my jamnntpd server and docsplace.. I assume that my nab peers auto add me, everyone else just sends in
areafix requests to me, their uplinks etc etc etc..

So I had assumed I was linked into your echo, when I did the audit, saw no traffic...

I have placed yahoonews and one other echo back into my cfgs and will update backbone files this weekend..

For future audits, I will recheck my linkages, exempting any echo that fell through the cracks on linkages from that particular audit.
