    ============================================================================
    1. Recent Additions to BACKBONE.NA (Since last revision on Jun 01, 2008)
    ============================================================================

    This update constitutes a audit of the echoes made available on the
    North American Backbone, no new echoes added.

    46 Echoes moved from BACKBONE.NA into BACKBONE.NO
    21 Echoes moved from BACKBONE.NO into BACKBONE.NA

    BACKBONE.NA Net Loss = 25 Echoes.

    ============================================================================
    2. Dropped from BACKBONE.NA into BACKBONE.NO
    ============================================================================

    Original BACKBONE.NO contained 270 Echoes.

    21 Requailified for BACKBONE.NA and thusly moved back into BACKBONE.NA

    BACKBONE.NO Net Loss = 249 Echoes.

    These 249 Echoes are to be considered unavailable and are destroyed.
    A roster of these echoes will be hatched out into a file called:

    BACKBONE.DST

    New BACKBONE.NO will consist of 46 Echoes removed from BACKBONE.NA.

    ============================================================================

    Being that this was an audit, publishing the list of echoes within this
    file, which also gets posted into a a message echo would have proven
    unwieldly. Therefore please consult the recently hatched files:

    In Section 6, the system name for 1:261/38 was changed from "Filegate"
    to "Northeast Star". The Filegate still very much exists, this name
    change was made to better clarify this systems relationship with The

    CANPOL echo was previously a destroyed echo that was listed in the file
    BACKBONE.DST. CANPOL returned to BACKBONE.NA per special request, we are
    told that CANADA is undergoing some sort of election.

    MODERATORS are reminded to:

    * Check their echoes for activity, echoes that sit inactive for four to
    six months or more, will face the risk of dropping into distribution
    limbo. First step is BACKBONE.NO when it still distributable, next
    step is BACKBONE.DST, when the echo isnt distributable, such was the
    case for CANPOL.

    * Check the various BACKBONE files (See Section 4), to make sure your
    echoes are listed where you want them to be.

    NHL echo was previously a destroyed echo that was listed in the file
    BACKBONE.DST. NHL returned to BACKBONE.NA per special request.

    MODERATORS are reminded to:

    * Check their echoes for activity, echoes that sit inactive for four to
    six months or more, will face the risk of dropping into distribution
    limbo. First step is BACKBONE.NO when it still distributable, next
    step is BACKBONE.DST, when the echo isnt distributable, such was the
    case for NHL.

    * Check the various BACKBONE files (See Section 4), to make sure your
    echoes are listed where you want them to be.

    not rehatch a special copy of this file for the sole sake of this change and instead will wait until the next time a hatchable update is required.

    It probably doesnt..

    Last year, I removed several dead echoes from the NA file that had been dead for eons... That echo was one of them.

    Sean Dennis recently requested it to be carried officially again.

    I am relatively certain that other members of the NAB last year didnt bother removing the echoes from their setups that landed in the BACKBONE.DST file as it was initially created last year. In this case this would include you and in the case of the echo, you didnt have to (re)setup anything.

    I plan on revisiting the dead echo situation again during the July 4th weekend.

    I was informed that the hatch I did yesterday went out to links as 0 byte (rassin frassin htick).

    I am in the process of configuring the DOS copy of Allfix, which I will run from a VDM on my windows XP laptop, but the installation resides on the linux box. I will use it to re-hatch the files to the mailhub which has no issue in tossing.

    The DIABETES echo was previously listed in BACKBONE.DST as a
    destroyed echo and was returned to distribution at moderator
    request.

    MODERATORS are reminded to:

    * Check their echoes for activity, echoes that sit inactive for Six to
    Twelve months, will face the risk of dropping into distribution
    limbo. First step is BACKBONE.NO when it still distributable, next
    step is BACKBONE.DST, when the echo isnt distributable.

    * Check the various BACKBONE files (See Section 4), to make sure your
    echoes are listed where you want them to be.

    ============================================================================

    This is a special rehatch of the backbone files that were processed on
    September 20th, 2009. There was some issues with the File Processing
    software that may have resulted in those files not propogating
    properly, this should remedy that issue. No other changes were made.

    The Change is as follow:

    Brenda Donovan @ 1:10/3 has left Fidonet and obviously no longer a part of the North American Backbone.

    [BACKBONE.NO]

    Roster of message echoes available on The North American Backbone,
    that were at one time listed in BACKBONE.NA but no longer have any
    coherent activity or any activity at all. Echoes that remain listed in
    this file at the next audit, will either get destroyed or returned to

    [BACKBONE.DST]

    Roster of message echoes previously listed in BACKBONE.NO, once listed
    in here, the echo should be considered no longer in distribution. Consider
    the echo at this time destroyed. This file will be dynamic, meaning its
    list can grow as time moves on, or even shrink if echoes listed within
    are ressurected. Echoes listed here will have to be re-requested as if
    brand new.

    [ADM] - Administrative Echoes

    Echoes with the "[ADM]" notation prefixed to their description will be
    exempted from dropping out of the BACKBONE.NA file.

    [GNG] - Gated News Groups

    Echoes with the "[GNG]" notation prefixed to the description are echoes
    designated, or known, to contain content imported from Internet News
    groups, Usenet or mailing lists. This notation should afford one the
    ability to determine if these areas are suitable for their systems.

    Twelve months, will face the risk of dropping into distribution
    limbo. First step is BACKBONE.NO when it still distributable, next
    step is BACKBONE.DST, when the echo isnt distributable.

    * Check the various BACKBONE files (See Section 4), to make sure your

    [BACKBONE.NA]

    Roster of message echoes available on The North American Backbone.

    New Copy Hatched This Release? = [X] Yes [ ] No

    [BACKBONE.NO]

    Roster of message echoes available on The North American Backbone,
    that were at one time listed in BACKBONE.NA but no longer have any
    coherent activity or any activity at all. Echoes that remain listed in
    this file at the next audit, will either get destroyed or returned to
    BACKBONE.NA, depending on if they received any traffic. Audits occur
    approximately every four to six months.

    New Copy Hatched This Release? = [ ] Yes [X] No

Echoes listed here will have to be re-requested as if
    brand new.

    New Copy Hatched This Release? = [X] Yes [ ] No

    ============================================================================

    * Check the various BACKBONE files (See Section 4), to make sure your
    echoes are listed where you want them to be.

    groups, Usenet or mailing lists. This notation should afford one the
    ability to determine if these areas are suitable for their systems.

    ============================================================================
