• NOTE

From Carlos Navarro@2:341/234.1 to Digital Man on Sat May 4 19:03:37 2024
I understand that the NOTE kludge shows the editor used for posting a message.

    Why NOTE? (NOTEpad?)

Other than SBBS, is there any other software that generates it?

I'm not sure, but I'm pretty sure the use of that kludge pre-dates notepad.exe in Windows existence.

Yeah, I think I first saw that with QuikEdit, ICEedit, TIDE, etc.

I meant "notepad" in general, like a physical one. :-)

Ah yes. I checked some old bases and found a few of those.

I didn't remember about that kludge. I thought it was something more recent, and I'm only seeing in messages from SBBS systems (and in some patched *NNTPd server). That's why I asked here.

    Thanks.

Looking through my msgbases, I see a lot of DCTEdit "NOTE" kludges imported from FidoNet-Technology-Networks (FTNs) too. If you see a version number and registration info, it's most likely come from the editor itself and not SBBS (or SBBSecho).
