• Does QWK(E) store read messages?

    Hi,
I was wondering if QWK stores the messages you read into the REP packet? Do
    you need to use QWKE?

This question doesn't make too much sense to me, but I'll try... The REP packet contains your *REPLIES* to messages that you've read. If you
read a packet of messages but don't make any replies, there won't be a
    REP generated.

The QWKE format really has nothing to do with REP packets, per se. It's
a specification that includes additional headers/info/kludges in the
packets exchanged between the user and the BBS.

Oh, ok. So downloading messages automatically marks them as read?

No, REP packets only contain responses from you, including messages and requested to add/drop areas (and maybe others?). REP packets do not
include the messages you only read and don't respond to.

    Yes, that is correct.
