Is there a standard door setup command to allow me to create an external program menu to connect to another BBS from my synchronet v3.20 Linux BBS? Or is there a lot of other technical stuff that needs to be setup first?

Thanks, ya I found it, thank you. They sure have everything you could think of there. I think it looks easy enough, I assume the default Mode will be fine for most systems?

'Sysop' (system operator) is typically the term for someone who runs a BBS.

Maybe look at the ones that come installed stock and the settings in your Synchronet configuration. The easiest new install would probably be to install one of the JavaScript games that are sort of native to sync.
I have a step by step in the sysop doc for Synchronet and Linux set up for BBS Tournament Wordle (www.bbswordle.com) if you wanted to try something slightly more challenging.
Wow totally read that question wrong, my apologies. Somehow missed external.

I've had the same thought, but it seems many BBS users and sysops don't really care about the security that SSH offers over Telnet. On my BBS, I get far more users using telnet than SSH.

ooh, ok! i personally prefer ssh because i can just put the
credentials into syncterm once and not have to worry about the
extra login screen, i only use telnet for conchaos bc i don't

YOU CAN PUT YOUR TELNET CREDENTIALS INTO A BBS'S DIALING ENTRY IN SYNCTERM, AND THEN AT THE LOGIN PROMPT YOU JUST PRESS 'ALT-L' AND IT LOGS YOU IN WITH NO FURTHER FUSS.
... Did you ever stop to think, and forget to start again?

Yes, all that stuff is normally on separate ports.. The standard port for telnet is 23, standard SSH port is 22, and standard web port is 80 - though the settings for those can be changed by the sysop.
