Ex: A long time ago, I decided that my main car would be a pick up
truck. GM had just come out with their non-boxy versions and I picked
up a nice short box one. My insurance was really cheap. I held on to
it for several years and then one year my insurance went WAY up.
Yet my truck was several years old. I had no accidents or tickets. I called to complain and ask for a reason.
The answer: They've been making your truck for several years, effectively unchanged. Your truck is worth much more now to thieves as a source of parts - which is impossible to track compared to something that has a
VIN attached to it.
