    Umm, this isn't quite what I wanted. I'm looking for an implementation of something like an MLE control in text mode, to use *in* a program, rather than a text editor to *write* a program.

    I can gut the kernel out of FTE (or a similiar editor) if need be, but I'd rather not spend the time to pair down a fully-functional editor if I don't have to.
