• Open Watcom announcement

From Jonathan de Boyne Pollard@2:257/609.3 to David Noon on Tue Jun 25 23:35:32 2002
Here is the announcement of the availability of the source code for
[most of] the Watcom compiler and library.

The source code for the library has in fact been available for quite a while now. It is the source code for the compiler, linker, and associated toolset that has only just become available.

    Hi Rich,

Replying to a message of Rich Wonneberger to David Noon:

*** Quoting David Noon to Sarah Nunez dated 06-11-02 ***
The missing OS/2 stuff (the OS/2 Develoepr's Toolkit) is on the install
media for Warp 4, WSeB, MCP, MCP2, ACP, ACP2 and eCS. It is more
up-to-date than that supplied on the Watcom install CDs of old. If you

A newer Watcom compiler is on one of the eCS CDs??

No, a newer OS/2 DTK is on CD #2 of the eCS install media. [I.e. it is newer than the one supplied on the Watcom install CD.]

The [retail] Watcom compiler arrives with the OS/2 DTK 2.1, which dates from 1993. In contrast, eCS arrives with OS/2 DTK 4.52, which dates from 1999 and targets the kernels, shells and file systems supplied with ACP and MCP.

There are some mind-numbing bugs in the 4.52 DTK, but the Warpzilla team are intent on getting them fixed. Compiling Warpzilla from source is actually impossible with the 4.52 DTK, and so it was compiled using the 4.51 DTK (as supplied with WSeB).

    Regards

    Dave

    David,

AH. I did get the compiler from watcom. Havent looked at it yet.
What will the tool kit do for me?? (other then examples of code or such)

Now you have me wondering if I should bother with the kit or start learning the
    compiler & C first.

    Thanks
