• Watcom 11.0c patch available

From David Noon@2:257/609.5 to All on Tue Sep 25 07:07:24 2001
    Hi folks,

The Open Watcom project has made available a release candidate for the patch to
upgrade both the C/C++ and FORTRAN compilers from 11.0 to 11.0c.

    Details:
    ftp server: ftp.openwatcom.com
    directory: /watcom/zips
[and /watcom/docs for the manuals in .pdf]

The zip archives run to about 40 megs for the C/C++ compiler and a little less (but not much) for the FORTRAN compiler.

    Regards

    Dave

I should mention that you must have versions 11.0, 11.0a, 11.0b installed for this beta to work. I.e it will NOT work by itself.

I assume if I have 11b installed, it will work? I never had 11.0 that I know of .. upgraded from 10.6 to the a version I think.

On beyond thta what about the docs? I've got hardbound docs here ...

    Thanks ..

Sleep well; OS/2's still awake! ;)

Have the patches for C/C++ and Fortran but have not yet unpacked them.
I found that the patch does not execute under OS/2, so I'll try it when I load up under NT.

It depends from what you mean by "work". One can, by all reports, compile and link applications with it. One simply has to supply one's own OS/2 API headers
    and import libraries.

Try the ordinary ZIP archive file version of the patch, rather than the version
that comes as a self-extracting Windows executable. (I gather from the announcement that there is an ordinary ZIP version of the 11.0c patch.)

Having spent 1.5 hours downloading it I'm a bit reluctant to do so.

I've just had a look at the FTP site, and it turns out that the ordinary version of the patch is actually split, by operating system, into lots of ZIP files. So you probably wouldn't have needed to download half as much.

I have somewhat ... er ... broader IP connectivity than I used to have. I just
downloaded all of the ZIP archives (56.2MiB in total) in 20 minutes. I can stick them on an LS-120 floppy disc and mail it to you if you want.

Maybe I'll get around to installing the patch myself some time ... (-:

    Where do you get those?

Well, I actually bought the OS/2 Developers' Toolkit several years ago. I believe that the Developers' Toolkit is now freely available both as a download
and bundled on OS/2 install media, but I couldn't give you exact details offhand. I also have the slightly modified Toolkits that are bundled with the Watcom, Borland, MetaWare, and IBM compilers. I use the headers from them.

As already mentioned in this very echo, I wrote my own import libraries. (-:

One of these days, I'll get around to writing my own headers, too.
