    21.03.2001 EMX Fix 4

    Eberhard Mattes has released fix 4 for emx 0.9d. You can download it from ftp://ftp.leo.org/pub/comp/os/os2/leo/gnu/emx+gcc/emxfix04.zip. EMX is a library for OS/2 that is required to run most software that has been ported from Un*x. The full package also contains the gcc compiler for OS/2.

    Problems solved by this fix package
    -----------------------------------

    o emxdoc: LaTeX and IPF output fixed

    o various bugs in DB fixed:
    put() fixed for keys in overflow pages
    splitting after new key (which is the first on page) fixed
    applied patches from http://www.sleepycat.com/update/1.85/patch.185.html

    o sscanf(): Don't set errno (to EACCES) when reaching EOF (C99)

    o fscanf(): "%[A-]" does not contain a set

    o strtol(): *END_PTR now points to 'x' instead of '0' for "0x*"

    o printf(): printf("%#.4g", 0.0) fixed

    o <ctype.h>: don't define macros when compiling C++

    Backup. Patch. If it messes things up, restore from backup.

    I have d/l'ed the patch archive, but I haven't applied it yet.
    Perhaps this coming weekend

    BTW: did you get my netmail reply dated 24 mar 2001?

    No.

    It seems message traffic in and out of Z2/R25 is a little flakey
    (or even flakier than usual) at the moment. I netmailed you
    instead of posting another message in the echo because I thought
    echomail was slow, but it seems netmail is taking the long route
    too

    The nodes at _both_ ends of the Z1/R25 link have dropped out of FIDO,
    so a period of problems was not a suprise.

    Routed netmail is even more of a gamble than echomail (and often
    slower!) :-(. The only reliable way is to crash a message direct...

    Not quite true, John Souvestre was one end and he has dropped out -
    the other end stepped down as REC and importer.

    Z2/REC26 Jon Hunt is going to drop out as of 13-Apr-2001. For
    this and many other OS/2 and some more echoes I am his Z1/Z2 link.
    I'm going to assume who ever his downlinks are, will find another
    route within Z2.

    That only affects the few remaining nodes in R26, R25 echos are
    imported by 2:255/90 direct from Bob Seaborne. Noce short path from
    you to me for echo mail (details condensed):

    Routed netmail is even more of a gamble than echomail (and often

    direct...

    Former Z1EC Sid Balcom has dropped out and AFAIK Janis Kracht has
    taken over as Z1EC now. Often netmail travels through the EC, so
    that is another potential problem. And since John Souvestre
    dropped out Janis has switched to Bob Seaborn for her backbone
    feed.

    I'm not sure who's connecting to who on the R25/Z1 links apart from
    the echo importing.

    We live in interesting times. May the changes be pleasant for
    you.

    Interesting anyway.
