From Peter Santiago@6:750/101 to All on Thu Jun 28 14:39:22 2001
    Hello All!

Anybody here using sio2k.sys? Having a bit of a problem. With sio.sys (version
1), Binkley can answer the modem, however with sio2k.sys. Both Binkley and Maximus WFC refuses to answer calls. Furthermore, the usual RING modem result code doesn't appear. And it's taking quite a while to initialize the port. Another question is if I'm going to let people telnet into my BBS via VMODEM and I would want to provide ten virtual modem ports for them to connect over the Internet, does that mean I have no choice but to buy a 16 port version of the SIO.sys package? Thanks

    Regards,
    Peter

I tried to. I simply replaced the old SIO calls by new ones, since
the new one is directly supporting my high speed COM ports. My mailer
Xenia was working after I typed

    Modes COM2:115200,n,8,1
    Modes COM3:115200,n,8,1
    Modes COM4:115200,n,8,1
    Modes COM5:115200,n,8,1

on an OS/2 prompt. Before, nothing happened at all.

However, I'm passing incoming PPP calls to SafeFirePPP, and that
didn't work at all, SafeFirePPP simply didn't seem to recognizie the
COM ports. I couldn't find the reason, so I'm back to the old SIO
    now.

Maybe "Modes" solves your problem, maybe your mailer has the same
    problem as SafeFirePPP.
    Ciao, Christian

I see no reason to. The old SIO 1.60d works perfectly, and the new one
    costs more money.

I'm pretty sure that Ray will sell you a 10 port or 12 port version of SIO 1.60d (remember real hardware ports _and_ Vmodem ports count toward the total).
Telnet to gwinn.com and see for sure. However, SIO2K supports up to 255 ports, and is currently in beta and free.

    Christian,

You have to register it to get the extra ports.

I do have a registered version, but only 4 ports. And I guess registrations are only accepted for the current Sio2K, no more for
the old Sio. That's why I tried the new one.

So that's 2 voting for the possibility of still registering the old
SIO with only one opposing. I guess I'll give it a try. :-)

These are the lines that invoke sio2k.sys in my config.sys:

    DEVICE=C:\SIO2K\UART.SYS LOGFILE=C:\SIO2K\SIO2K.LOG DEVICE=C:\SIO2K\VSIO2K.SYS LOGFILE=C:\SIO2K\VSIO2K.LOG DEVICE=C:\SIO2K\SIO2K.SYS LOGFILE=C:\SIO2K\SIO2K.LOG

Try the following lines (which add FOSSIL support and 4 Vmodem ports):

    REM device=c:\sio2k\uart.sys logfile=c:\sio2k\sio2k.log
    REM device=c:\sio2k\vsio2k.sys logfile=c:\sio2k\vsio2k.log vIrqList(3,4)

Attached to com2 is an external modem while com3 is an internal PnP ISA modem with IRQ 10 set by the PnP BIOS. (COM2 and COM3 initializes w/o any problems with sio160d package...)

I have tried running logger.exe (included with the sio2k package) as advised in
the faq, then running modes com2:115200,n,8,1. :( Still won't work properly.

How I would wish to be able to buy a 10/12 port version of sio.sys... But it's
going to be too bloddy expensive for me... <sigh> (In fact, I have been mulling
over migrating to Linux... too bad Maximus software is not yet ported to Linux.) BTW, I have been visiting your site at www.juge.com. A very handy site
    it is. =) Thanks.
