i have os2 warp server v4.52 cp with some fixpacks, but the problem is without fixpacks. i have moved my bbs from a single cpu board to a
dual p166. i've fully reinstalled the OS, but on the new board its
freezes from time to time. i have tested the RAM with memtest86. i
have changed most of the hardware, for which i had spares, but the
problem presits the: the system hangs. it is totally random, the
uptime can be from 1 hour to 7 days. do you have any tools which logs
the I/O or CPU and processes? how do you debug an os2? :)
i need some tips to debug a strange freezing issue with my os2
install.

so i've reverted to binkd/0.9.2 and as you can see my tagline, now it
is freeeeeakin' awesome! :)

That's definitely an issue. I have run SIO 1.60d for years without
issues but I know plenty of peoplw who can't run that version on their hardware without having odd problems.

i am not sure where the problem is, because i've changed every hardware component, but switching back to old binkd solved the instability issues.

i am using sio 2.03 registered
Hi Daniel,
i am using sio 2.03 registered
SIO2K may be causing issues. I have never used it myself but I know
of others who have had to switch back to SIO 1.60d. Also, why such a dramatic jump in versions with BinkD? Andrew Leary, who also runs an ArcaOS-based BBS, had issues with -112 but dropped to -111 and
everything seems to work okay.
that was the previous version i've used, so the exe was in the same directory. but until september i am not near Budapest, maybe just once
a week, so i can't restart the bbs if it freezes. so in autumn i will
have more time to test the different versions. until... i just enjoy
it works :)
ok so if anyone is interested, after several reinstalls, different hw
and sw components i found the problem, and it was.....tadaaam:::
BINKD!
this version randomly freezes OS/2 Warp 4.52 server:
"Binkd 1.1a-112 (Jan 31 2021 21:06:45/OS2)
Compilation flags: gcc (klibc), zlib, bzlib2, https, ntlm, amiga_4d_outbound, bw lim. "

relevant, it is how and with what compiler it has been compiled. Also different libc*.dll versions may cause a mess. I stopped compiling
Feel free to freq magic BINKD2 any time from here and you'll get the nightly version. :)
That machine finally had some other (HD) issues and I replaced it with
a slightly more compatible Lenovo desktop, Since then I have not see
FTP or VNC freeze or crash once. So network driver/hardware could be
the issue as well.

I have seen that over the years with SIO. For example, I have never
had an issue with SIO 1.60d running on any hardware I've used but I
know Andrew (Leary) has never been able to get SIO 1.60d to work on any
of his systems. It's really odd but you know how picky OS/2 is.
I am wanting to retire Internet Rex for a while since everyone feeds to/from me
using BinkD. I know Andrew had to drop from the latest BinkD (-112)
back to -111 due to BinkD causing issues but if Tommi has a good
working version on his
WSeB install, I know it will work on my ArcaOS system.
Let me know what you end up running, as I plan to make that move
myself in the coming months

I am currently working on my BBS that is not happy with my old nodelist setup
(it will not send out FREQs or crash netmail to systems who are not in my node
manager). I am getting ready to retire Internet Rex after 23 years of use and
am going to go to BinkD. Could you email me at sysop@outpostbbs.net and we
could work out an arrangement to get your build of BinkD?
Also, what do you use for SRIF processing with BinkD?

I use mfreq here on my linux box to handle requests. I haven't tried
the OS/2 version but I have seen an OS/2 version 3.17 around and
about. mfreq supports SmartMagic that works nicely to send a requester
the latest file from a file area. That's handy in areas like fidonews
or nodelist when filenames change frequently.
You wouldn't happen to have a copy of that mfreq handy would you?
Also, did you receive the netmail I sent you to your point address?
Alan Ianson wrote to Sean Dennis <=-
Yes, it should be in your inbound, MFREQ317.ZIP.
Yes, I have a bit of work to do here but I'm hoping to get
that done in the next 10 days or so. I'll reply to your
netmail shortly.

Yes, but according to the author Harald Harms, it is "Simply the

Harald passed away some years ago.
I have tried to contact Allfix's current maintainer via netmail and in
the ALLFIX_HELP echo but no answer. That makes me a bit suspect.
I tried to upgrade my Allfix to newer versions few times, but no
success. Maybe a setup from scratch might work, but I see no reason to
do that. The last version from Harald works quite fine. (ALLFIX/2 for
OS/2 Warp, v6.00.018 09-Jul-00 14:20)

I'll look and see if I can find that version of ALLFIX.
I am using NEF and it works great but having the SRIF and filefind
functions would be handy. I'm cleaning up 20 years worth of mess on
the BBS and finding stuff I didn't realize I still had anymore.
Seems to be available for download there -> http://www.allfix.com
It is always nice to find something old in your hard disk. My OS/2 has some old DOS tools from '80's in C:\ :D

I found several half-finished BBS doors hiding. I am working on
porting my development environment so I will be able to provide DOS,
OS/2, Win32 and Win64, Linux, and WINserver-native doors from the same code. I have Windows 7, Windows 10, FreeDOS, Devuan Linuxs, OS/2 Warp 4.52 and ArcaOS 5.0.6 virtual machines I built just for testing
purposes. Life is good. <G>

Side question: what are you using for your NNTP gate on your BBS?
