I've successfully installed OS/2 Warp 4.52 under VMware Player 5.xx.

No. It was my son who did it, and he said it was a pain in the a**, having to go throught quite a few .iso images of OS/2 before he found the one that worked.

He says he still has a copy, if you want to contact me privately (bob@fidonet.ca).

I know that a standard OS/2 CD comes with the images files for all floppies along with the tool to create them. AFAIK, no OS/2 CD ever was bootable.

The following instructions might help you:

Let us know how it works out. :)

    Default OS/2 Installation Diskettes/Floppies

    Hi there,

Not sure if this answers all your questions regarding creating the OS/2 installation diskettes from CD.

    1. Copy the directory \DISKIMGS\OS2\35 from your OS/2 CD to your local drive. (i.e. c:\os2)
    2. Copy all the files from \DISKIMGS to the same directory. (i.e. c:\os2)
    3. To create the first bootable installation diskette, at the command prompt, type XDFCOPY disk0.dsk a: (a: being your floppy drive)
    4. Repeat for all the installation diskettes in the directory (i.e. XDFCOPY
disk1.dsk a: for the next one)
    5. If you want to use the OS/2 CD and save some diskettes create the bootable diskette (disk0.dsk) and then create the CD diskette (disk1_cd.dsk) and you're good to start your install.

    Hope this helps,

OS/2 Warp 4.52 is bootable from CD; it's what I have installed here on the BBS machine. If anyone needs an ISO of it (I only have the first CD which is the OS itself, not the second CD with extras), let me know via netmail or email at sysop at outpostbbs dot net.

You don't even have to do that. Just create a virtual machine and mount the OS/2 ISO on the virtual CD drive...the rest is easy. I know, I have a VMWare Player OS/2 virtual machine here that works just fine.

Didn't know that, I'll try with virtualbox.

A fair warning about Virtualbox: I had problems with OS/2 under it. OS/2 uses some archaic and not-fully-documented system calls when it boots and from what I understand, VB doesn't emulate them very well or at all.

The best one I had was Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 but that's because the original authors of Virtual PC wrote it originally under OS/2. :)

Yeah, coudn't manage to install either Warp 3 or 4 in VirtualBox. Install would
fail. That's why I thought a bootable CD, *could* make a difference. After all,
I managed to get a vbox vm image of 4.5 which runs fine, so it is possible to run OS/2. :)
