I moved from from 64Bit to 32Bit... and then moved the BBS from a regular machine to a VM... and from what I can tell things are working... EXCEPT my dovenet is not sending and receiving via QWK...

    ideas??

I'm not 100% sure, but one thing that I forgot was to make sure zip.exe & unzip.exe were in place. I don't use ZIP on any of my FTNs so they were just working, but DOVE-Net wasn't working for some reason. Once I put zip.exe & unzip.exe in place it just started working.

If you do have them in place, maybe make sure you don't have the 64bit windows .exe's now that you're running 32bit windows?

Again, not 100% sure what the issue is, but worth looking at.

You can get unzip.exe here: ftp://ftp.info-zip.org/sys%24sysdevice/infozip/pub/infozip/win32/unz600dn.zip

    And zip.exe here: ftp://ftp.info-zip.org/sys%24sysdevice/infozip/pub/infozip/win32/zip300xn.zip

It looks like unzip.exe needs some .dll files (included in the archive) present in the same directory (or path) for it to function.

Did you follow the A46 to A47 upgrade instructions first before you did the A47 to A48 instructions? Here are some specific instructions from the A46 to A47 upgrade:

    - If you use the default msg_editor.ini then you should replace it with the
new one, otherwise refer to the What's New and the new default template
for how to upgrade it to support Tagline changes. You can replace the
    default like this:

    install extract msg_editor.ini c:\mystic\themes\default\text

    - You will need to install the new Taglines template and default Taglines
    database:

    install extract taglines.ans c:\mystic\themes\default\text
    install extract taglines.ini c:\mystic\themes\default\text
    install extract taglines.dat c:\mystic\data

It is also recommended that you go into System Configuration > New User
Settings 2 and set "Taglines" to On so new users will default to having
Taglines enabled if you wish them to (or set to Off if you want them off
    by default).

... What was the best thing before sliced bread?

I think there is a small issue you might want to review for the next release...

Message areas are auto created in the \mystic\msgs\ directory. If I want to move the message files to a subdirectory like all the fido to \mystic\msgs\fido\ or \mystic\msgs\usenet\ ... Here is goes... if I move / target the message ares one at a time it'll move the files over ... If I try to move several over at a time with the Global command menu.... It seems to leave some files behind in the \mystic\msgs\ directory and they appear to be links to the files that were moved.

It only does this when I try to bulk move the areas to a new subdirectory

A couple of notes here because I think a lot of this might just be confusion on how things work:

If you are seeing .lnk files those are not any type of links to files, those are part of the message base itself. Mystic message bases each have 7 data files with the following extensions: lnk, scn, xlr, jhr, jlr, jdt, and jdx. If you remove any of those you could cause some problems down the line.

When using the global editor it does not rename or move files for you, you are only updating the path. If you want to try to relocate your files into those directories you have to manually copy them and then use the global editor to update the path. It will only update that value not move files.

The reason the auto create in the import doesn't allow you to set the path for each network is because I have been over the years trying to get people to stop moving the message base data files all over the place because it makes it harder to do upgrades or to change the root Mystic install directory, or move between Windows and Linux (for examples). This is something I could add though but I haven't because my goal was to remove the configurable message path per message base.

... I'm not a complete idiot... Several parts are missing!

I went back a few messages and found out that you had added the feature I've been bugging the piss out of you to add...

I read the message and and paid more attention to the semantics ... and then said Oooooooooooh to myself and made the appropriate changes...

So far so good with the auto-generation of Message Base names using Hex ...

Ummmm, an issue has cropped up... The Menu option (MZ) Toggle new scan base is not working correctly.

I can Add All or Remove All.... but I cannot toggle individual areas on or off...
What has changed?? I have the recent 07-07-22 build and I have a larger message base now... hovers around 900++ message bases. More will be auto added at some point.

That's the best I can do...

I know that I mentioned this once before and I'm not sure not sure if what is/will become of it...

I have a few message Groups... Local/Fido/Usenet just to mention a few. Years ago I recall reading that JAM message base responds slower if there are large numbers of files in the directory, message base files.

I don't recall why that was, if it was hardware or software limitations based on that time or whatever... So, I separate my message groups into different directories /msg/dovenet /msg/fido/ and so on..

If Mystic auto creates a message base and I change where Mystic sees the message base it'll copy over the files from where Mystic auto created them to where I made the changes...

Here you go.... If I ignore things for a while and there are a large number of areas and I try to uses the Global option... and I make the changes I want to have for several areas... It'll change the directory but not copy over the JAM files from the old directory to the new one like Mystic does when I do them one at a time.

Oooooh, BTW... I forget what it was that I was doing. I was messing with the message base setup and all my area setup for FidoNET only vanished .... I didn't back it up so I'm left with Mystic auto creating the areas as they come in. Mystic is not using, or back filling, any of the newly vacant area numbers that were left open from my FidoNET purge...

I have enough on my mind, midterm elections, war in Ukraine, gas prices, inflation and what not. Now I'm focused on the fact that Mystic is not using the newly vacant area numbers.

    Great Job... I love Mystic

It looks like when you post via mutil it's not adding "[ANSI]" to the subject line, so maybe mystic is either not detecting that it's an ANSI or
it's processing it differently than when you upload it via the BBS.

After actually looking at mutil.ini, it seems the stanza is called "[PostTextFiles]" and mentions nothing about ANSI. Also, whatsnew.txt doesn't mention anything regarding this stanza and posting ANSI files either. It may be possible it doesn't support doing that just yet, or was never intended to?

Maybe others that actually use that stanza can chime in on this, though, as I see a lot of ANSI posts from other Mystic systems.

I haven't tried to post an ansi with mutil for a long time.

If I remember right mutil only posts the first 79 or 80 columbs of text and anything longer than that would simply be discarded. I found that to be the case with any text or ansi file. I always made sure that text was preformatted to fit in that before posting with mutil.

It's been a very long time since I used mutil, I don't know if that is still the case today or not.

That may be exactly what he's encountering. It's taking into consideration all the ansi codes and chopping it off at 79 characters. Otherwise, the ansi is displaying fine.
