    Hello g00r00,

I just updated to the current prealpha and messages seem to get a TZUTC kludge that says 0000, and the time stamp of messages seems to be using UTC time. Is it supposed to work that way?

    Ttyl :-),

Its pulling that information from your system settings (or should be).

Check that /etc/localtime and /etc/timezone are set correctly and we can go from there

I don't have an /etc/timezone, never did that I know of. I do have an /etc/localtime and it is set to Pacific Daylight Time or America/Vancouver.

The date command says the time is currently Thu Oct 15 00:55:10 PDT 2020. My timestamp will be +7 hours I think.

What Linux distro are you using? I think you can also set the TZ environment variable and it will read that. I'll have to double check all of the steps it takes to find the timezone but different distributions do different things so I'll start with that.

    Slackware64 14.2.

I think you can also set the TZ environment variable and it will read g0> that.

I do have both TZUTC and TZ set, BBBS requires it. My /etc/profile includes..

    export TZUTC="-0700"
    export TZ="PDT+7"

That'll change when PDT kicks back in.

I don't mind adding an /etc/timezone if that would help but I don't know what that file should look like.

Perfect. I'll need to dig through code and refresh myself with the various things it looks for to try to get the timezone. I test under Ubuntu so its been a long time since I've tried Slack.

I did try adding an /etc/timezone with "America/Vancouver" and it made no difference for me. I'm not sure why it's not working for me and I see it is working for others.

I still haven't had a chance to do anything with this yet. I did download the latest Slackware ISO but I haven't had a chance to try to get it installed in a VMware to test with yet. I think my hard drive is starting to die (I seem to go through hard drives kind of fast with all of my compiling for Mystic and other projects) so I might have to put it off a little bit if that happens.

What kind of drive do you use?

And please let us know if you need some help with that. The least we can do is help you out with a hard drive with all you do for us.

Yep, spinning up various distros can be a PITA. I would try a live cd if you don't need an actuall install. One of these might work for you. I'd suggest one of the XFCE versions since they are small and would get a quick slackware environment up for you.

This just started happening with the last few A47 versions. It was working for me with A47 two weeks ago.

I am going to install it mostly because I have only been testing with Ubuntu lately so it wouldn't hurt to have something else sitting around to test on.

I have upgraded the kernel and tzdata packages and it's working again. I think this message will have a TZUTC kludge that says -0700.

I'm not sure why that is but we can scratch that off the list.

Awesome glad to hear! Thanks for letting me know.

I still hadn't got around to getting Slack installed yet!
