Okay, there's about 50-something nodes connected to this echo and it's dead quiet. Surely someone has something to say about music. ;)

Ain't that the truth. I've got a set of AKG headphones that I use for
making a radio show for my church and boy those things sound good. I
use them to listen to stuff on the computer now and I just can't enjoy
the music as much from computer speakers or even my home AV system
anymore. Those headphones sound so good!

Nothing about current music, haven't listened to it in decades.

I haven't listened to the "top 40" stuff since about 1995 myself (granted, I'm 34, so the "decades" are different for me). I mostly now just trade in MP3s with friends of the same musical tastes.

The problem is that music is no longer music; it's a machine that grinds out talentless idiots for a less-than-intelligent crowd that will settle for anything that remotely sounds like it has a beat. That reminds me of the line that Elwood Blues says on the introduction of the Blues Brothers' CD, "Briefcase Full of Blues". It goes something like "in 2006, blues will only be
found in the classical section at your local public library". It's darn near that now with many types of music, sadly.

I hear ya! I gave up on that "top 40" crap a couple years before you
did ( got 12 years on you, though).

Yup! Thrash about for 3 to 5 minutes, and call it music. So much for
the current state of music. I'm sure Mozart, Mendelsohn, and Beethoven
are twisting about in anguish in their coffins.

Too true! Too True! Now the funny thing about your mentioning this
album is, I actually own a copy of the album...from when it first came
    out as an LP.

That's a great one. I have it on CD, but I like it a lot. Good stuff. My dad's the one who got me into the blues.

The only time I hear it is when a car driven by someone who wants to
be stone deaf by the time s/he's your age is nearby. Some years ago
when I lived in Plattsmouth, NE, I could hear car sound systems two
blocks away - through the closed windows on the house.

Didn't see the movie but IMO he was right. FWIW, 'The Bill Miller Show'
is more to my taste in music. He plays stuff from the 1930s through the
late 1960s; he started out as a DJ in radio in 1951 (when I was in the first grade). The show is available on the net (rwpr.net, among other places), and he sells 1-hr CDs of each show. KMA in Shenandoah, Iowa, carries the show
    on tape delay.

That's the plan. I still have a bunch of stuff on vinyl, and
cassettes...at least some of which has either already been burned to
CD, or has yet to be burned.

Been doin' that for over 40 years. Kept the vinyl, kept the bakelite,

I would imagine that under the proper conditions (akin to museum
archival methods, I would think), I suspect that the wax would hold up
just fine...provided it never left the archival environment.

Don't have any wax records. They're wax *cylinders*. And they
get very, very brittle. I don't think they're playable any more (and
I don't have a cylinder player anyway). They do tend to shatter when
    stressed the least bit.
