Not a lot of action here lately. What is the situation on the Linux version of Maximus these days?

Is anyone actively working on it?

Is the latest source on SourceForge's CVS?

    Will it build?

    Is anyone using it?

    I'm shocked you're not a developer with all your C skills :)

Is anyone actively working on it?

    Nope.

Last I heard they cured some curses & cursor probs and got MEX to work and that
was it. Everybody kind of dropped the ball after that since 2003.

Is the latest source on SourceForge's CVS?

    Sure is.

    Will it build?

    Apparently.

Bob Jones was planning to clean up (or create) the Linux installer when time permits.

    Is anyone using it?

    Not me.

    I think there're a couple of people.

Bob Jones (Top Hat 2 BBS) runs a test node.

But beyond the novelty it'd be a pretty boring setup. A basic Max & Squish system more suitable as a mail hub.

Last time I tried it wouldn't build on FreeBSD, and I don't have the porting skills to attempt to fix that, so I left it alone. Bob Jones seems like the expert in that department!

    That I'm not sure of.

It was a couple years ago when I built it last.

    Will it build?

Yes, Max builds fine and works well. It needs a tweak or two I think but by
& large it works as expected. SqaFix works just like always, and Squish too, some minor bugs in the output (number of msgs purged and the like) but works
as advertised. Squish could use some work with large messages though. If
squish can't toss a large message .pkt's get renamed to .lng.

I could only get max to answer one telnet call though then I had to fire it
up again to get ready for the next call. Maybe some bash magic could get it going but it's beyond my skills..

    Is anyone using it?

There was a board in the eastern US that was using it for dial-up and telnet,
I logged on there a few times. I'll have to see if I can find the telnet address.

    Ttyl :-),

Actually, there are two others that have done more to get Max running under Linux than I have. I do have a test node running, but it's been a while since I compiled the code successfully. [I've upgraded the Linx box OS atleast twice
since I last compiled the code.]

At this time, I don't have time to work on it, and due to a prior contract don't want to touch the code till after June 23, 2007. Some parts are working.
Some parts are not working on my system....

Would you like to help with getting Maximus properly running under Linux? Or get the CVS to support current public compilers for building OS/2, Win32 or DOS
based versions? If you need access to update the CVS archives on SourceForge, I have permission to add developers to the project. [Hmmmm.... I may have to dig out some old info to do that....]

    Take care....

"we" really need someone who is a makefile wizard to get that part fixed... at least, until bob can get back on it... i remember that being the biggest problem when it went south after my last successful compile... the next update wouldn't work at all due to circular dependencies or something like that... really screwy as it worked on this update but not that one and there was nothing done on this end... each update cycle starts fresh with clean directories and freshly extracted archives and cvs retrievals...
