• Building under RHEL

From ROBERT WOLFE@1:116/17 to ALL on Sat Feb 12 08:29:54 2022
Hi all! I was wondering if anyone has succesfully gotten MBSE ro build and
run under Red Hat type distros and if so, what did you have to do so get it working? I have had it working flawlessly under older versions of Debian, but with the new systemd stuff, it seems those instructions no longer work.

I run Mageia v8 and that is a variant of RH.

Install all the required libraries and packages as normal using your package manager then build.

As I can boot into different versions especcialy when testing a new Mag version
I have installed it in /home/mbse and not the default /opt/mbse by using in ./configure --prefix=/home/mbse but other wise no issues what so ever.

The needed package names may WILL be different from Debian though.

Don't forget to read the manual for details on extra functionality from usage of Apache, FTP servers etc.

Give it a try and let us know how it went. <G>

I don't think anyone's tried building MBSE under RHEL or friends in a while.

Yeah, my main conectern is getting it set up to automatically start when
the system boots up and control it via the systemctl command.

Builds and runs on CentOS 8 Stream just fine here. I'm having some problems with
a corrupted file db but that's due to other issues.

I've set up a Devuan beowulf test VM and will be doing the same with FreeBSD. Just haven't built or run MBSE on either yet.

    Two things:

    - MBSE works just fine with Devuan 3.0 Beowulf. Already been tested.

    - MBSE does not work right under FreeBSD. There are several issues that need to be overcome (I have posted about this in the past month in this echo). I do not recommend using MBSE under FreeBSD at this time.

Right, I saw the work done on that and knew it was tested, but I have made a few minor mods to my local repo that I want to be sure about.

It'll be interesting to follow developments with a test node, though.

Thanks to the whole team for all the recent spate of improvements!

    Sounds good. :)

We're working on it slowly. I've discovered a bug with uncompressed mail packets not being tossed right when they are received. I am also completely overhauling the DOS doors documentation as a lot has changed since that part was originally written.

Do you have build/install notes for this? I was wanting to see if I can
get it to build and run under RHEL 9 beta (which I am a tester of).

Didn't do anything particularly special, just ./configure --prefix=/home/mbse
