got a problem in lord, installed a .ldy file in lord4.08b which is called bluefary.ldy (which worked fine in 4.07, anyway everytime myself of my bbs users logon it quits them out saying
You stop to notice a bird singing this bright morning..... C:\ren\lord\bluefary.ldy quest file not found!
Error reading from ! Halting!
Error code: 104
so what i did, was edited the lord.ldy file and removed it from there, and then loaded the game again.. and it still says the same thing, is there any other place that needs to be edited ? or will i have to reinstall? as i cant remove it from the Events as it only goes up to J and doesnt list any futher ldy files
You will have to delete the events.dat file possibly. Not sure about that. Preslar created the problem when he did final work on LORD 4.07 back in June, and it still exists in LORD 4.08 beta now, as you have found out.
It may apply to all LADY scripts that are executed at random by LORD. It does not happen if the lady script is executed by test.ldy which is run when you press X in the Forest. That is, if the LORD game is setup with
/DEBUG parameter in the LORD command line in start.bat that runs LORD.
Preslar is the only one who can fix the situation, since he is the only allowed
to work on the LORD programs, due to the contract terms he agreed to with Metropolis Gameport, who owns all of the LORD games. The script writers can't fix this type problem. Its not their fault. Michael Everett wrote the BLue Fairy script and he's been AWOL since around November 2006.
Preslar also is the only person who can fix LORDCFG's inability to display what
lady scripts are contained in events.dat file, past the first ten entries. This bug has been around for well over a year. Its just now beginning to bite bbs sysops pretty badly apparently. You may just have to test each available LADY script and see which ones will work when run randomly, and which don't. Then delete the actual LDY file for that script. Or move it into a subdirectory. LORD does not use LORD.ldy any more, as of v4.07.
Be sure to write to Preslar directly at
mike@lordlegacy.com via email and explain your problem to him. He will need details, such as your lady.log file,
and LORD's error.log file possibly.
As long as Michael Everett is unavailable, I provide limited support for his LADY scripts. But this type situation is not one I can do anything about, nor can any other LADY script author. This problem is 100% due to LORD's LADY engine not being able to execute scripts correctly. I also provide full support
for all LADY scripts made by Gordon Lewicky following his death in 2005, since I know he would want them supported. Donald.
