  • vlc and H.265

    Hey Mike!

    I just compiled vlc (many warnings) and discovered this;

    $ vlc -l | grep H.265
    hevc HEVC/H.265 video packetizer
    h26x HEVC/H.265 video demuxer
    x265 H.265/HEVC encoder (x265)

    ffmpeg could be used to reencode to vp9/opus so it can play on
    any chromecast

    Yes, as well as other supported codecs. The output can be piped to a suitable player instead of saving it to disk. Keep the original. :-)

    its the one with less resources to decompress i choiced above, while keeping looseless, and still with acceptle compression

    i dont know if vp8 would be better, so not tested, vp9/aac is good aswell

    or is there anyone that knows more profile for handbrake ?

    i dont know if vp8 would be better, so not tested, vp9/aac is
    good aswell

    I've heard that there are issues with both when it comes to web multimedia apps. I've never tried either with anything.

    The winner here in this neck of the woods when it comes to streaming would have to be MOV which can be played with anything we've thrown at it, especially an older Apple laptop that is on it's last legs. That one became the 'decider' as far as networking AV schtuffenputten. I am guessing we'll switch to H.264 once it has been officially retired. I am in no rush.
