I used to use the linux version of irex under kernel 2.4. When the 2.6 kernel went mainstream irex stopped working. I don't know why that is exactly but I could never overcome that.

If I remember correctly it wwill work, as long as you use IP numbers instead of URLs. Irex was tied to some old code, and that is why, or so I am told. I never used the linux version though.

that was due to the implemention of a new way of looking up DNS addresses... the format changed and those programs that didn't fell back to requiring IP addresses instead of domain names... i don't recall if that was ever fixed with
    a new release, though...

Yes, it has always had one pretty much. Win, DOS, OS/2, and Linux.

Internet Rex isn't open source. It's shareware that the author
still supports. I know Janis Kracht has a pretty much up to date

This is true under Linux. IREX/Linux won't work with Darwin.

There were changes in DNS resolution between kernel 2.4 and 2.6 that broke the libraries that IREX was compiled with. It actually will work under kernel 2.6 if you specify all of your connections by IP address instead of hostname.
