• Guitar playing, of course!

Hello, all, new here so bear with me. I'm an old dude, going on 47 in fact, but I've been playing since I was like 15 (1976, believe it or not!). My dad has been a musician forever, and at 69 yrs. old, he still is able to play a little. I guess I inherited the talent from him (even though I've FAR surpassed his level of playing). He played guitar for a long time, then had to give it up for a while as his fingers got too fat to control the strings like he needed to. At that time, there was a big demand for bass players, so in 1962 or '64 he up and bought a great Sunburst Fender Jazz bass, which he later re-painted when the finish got worn really bad. He still owns it, but I have a feeling when he leaves us for good it'll be mine. Recently, he also bought himself a brand new Fender Strat (to the tune of about $1000 or more, it's American made) and it's quite a beautiful guitar. Plays extremely well too. Hopefully he'll be leaving that one to me as well (I am the only son of 5 children, and the oldest to boot, I think it's a pretty good bet at this point!). I've had so many different guitars over the years I can only remember most of them, but what really amazed me was the Gibsons. Those Les Paul Customs are some of the most awesome instruments I ever had the pleasure of just plain SHREDDING! People say I'm pretty good, actually unbelievably good, and I'm starting to agree with them now. Even though it took over 30 years to get here.

Well, I'm about out of time now, just bored and thought I'd check out what was here on the ol' BBS. Anybody feel like chatting about it, I'll look in from time to time and see who's been here.

    Later!

I don't know that I'd say humble.. That's actually what I was for so long, then people kept convincing me that I was intensely unbelievable, so I got over my insecurities and finally accepted it. Now, as an example of events leading up to this, check out this story:

Back about the mid-late '90's, I had my own house and several really nice guitars at the time. Some friends were over one weekend, and they goaded me into playing the guitar a little, so I finally agreed, even drunkenated as I was at the time (well, I NEVER said I was PERFECT!). One of my buddies had brought along a friend of HIS, whom I'd never met before. When I plugged in one of the LP's and started jamming, this guy started insinuating that it HAD to be a tape or some kind of recording, as nobody (who's not famous or even in a band) could play like that. We all had a laugh and thought he was just joking at first. But NO, the guy was totally serious, and continued to denounce the playing, thinking he'd been "set up" or something for everyone else's amusement as far as I could tell. I was in tears from laughing, and still had trouble believing that this dude was serious, but he so was. After a while of this, I and some of the others (who really wanted to hear me play) started to get very annoyed at the constant berating from this guy. I said "come on over here and touch the strings, see how the amp reacts when YOU hit them", and he did. But, he STILL couldn't believe it and really thought that we were playing some kind of trick on him! I don't think I'll EVER forget that night.

Regardless, I AM really good now, and will prove it if anyone wants. I can record a short video and post it somewhere, or if you live close, come on by and I'll show you in person!

I'd like to hear and see you play. Why not post a video on YouTube and
    share the link with us?
