Hmmm... fixing spelling is good, but is not what I'd call "writing the code". Also, even while performing such a simple task, you had to recover from fuqup with some files "added by accident", but had not do anything to prevent these (and similar) fuqups in the future.

I see you are not yet ready for participating in the FTSC.

    Greetings gentlemen.

I am fully aware that, as a very junior member of the Fidonet community, my voice should not have much weight in these proceedings. However, I feel the need to respond to certain things:

Now, where can we look at the code written by you? git clone what?
    https://mbsebbs.org

    Well, let's look inside...

Hmmm... fixing spelling is good, but is not what I'd call "writing the code". Also, even while performing such a simple task, you had to
recover from fuqup with some files "added by accident", but had not do anything to prevent these (and similar) fuqups in the future.

I see you are not yet ready for participating in the FTSC.

I'd like to remind you of the specific wording of the selection process, sir:

"To be selected as a FTSC member, an individual must be a Fidonet node, and should be actively involved in Fidonet. *Examples* include having put out a Fidonet-related product or having updated a product in the preceding two years, or having experience as a Coordinator, Echomail Coordinator or mail or file Hub." (Emphasis on 'examples' by me)

"writing the code", as you put it, is not a hard requirement for FTSC membership. It is merely an example, and in fact, that specific example
doesn't mention code at all, just "updated".

Not to mention the other ways in which Sean has fulfilled these examples! Remind me again who's Chief Editor of FIDOGAZETTE? Is this not a "Fidonet-related product"?

More importantly, these examples are only used to qualify the phrase
"actively inolved in Fidonet." I daresay it would be difficult to convince anyone that Sean is *not* actively involved.

Basing membership solely on one's having 'written code' for Fidonet
completely ignores both the letter and the spirit of the selection process.

Thank you for reading this far. Good day, gentlemen.

Well, whaddyaknow. I completely agree with everything you've said.

I'd also point out that Sean has been a prior member of the FTSC, and is
the author of numerous BBS doors. While doors are not technically a
"part" of FidoNet, they certainly are part of running a BBS, which is obviously closely tied to FidoNet.

makes them feel important, and keeps their illusion of being part of the "ruling class" of FidoNet alive.

Agreed, again. I have plans to release my own series of BBS doors in the future, and literally wouldn't be on Fidonet if not for my interest in that.

I am a former RC (R11). I also am a backup nodelist clerk for Zone 1 if for some reason Nick's system can't handle it because all the ZC position really is for is an overglorified nodelist clerk.

Basing membership solely on one's having 'written code' for Fidonet completely ignores both the letter and the spirit of the selection process.

Alexey, like others in here, dislike me because I am not like them. That's all it is and ever will be. They just need to get over it because, God willing and the creek don't rise, I plan on being around for a while yet.

As for my qualifications for the FTSC with having run my own FTN network for 22 years, being involved with Fidonet for nearly 30 years, and having been on the FTSC several times already, I know the ins and outs of FTN technology enough to be in a group whose sole purpose is to document the use of that technology. It's not the FTSC's job to come up with this new tech but document its use. One's programming skills are not needed though a good understanding of the technical complexities of FTN are to understand what the group's true functionality is.

Sean, that was something casually discussed a long time ago but I had decided on a different solution especially in recent times.

It is extremely unlikely anything would happen to my system given how its set up from a hardware and Internet perspective. I run a small data centre out of my home and manage some instances in Montreal and Amazon EC2. If by chance something needs a reboot, my daughter the super-hacker can handle that.

The more likely scenario is something happening to me personally. And thats when the Z1 Sysops can easily call another election to have me replaced. Maybe Z1 goes without the nodelist for a days, maybe a few weeks, but nobody really cares because Z1 is largely quiet, laid-back, whatever happens happens, we do not have the Nodelist Police, its 2022 not 1992, nobody here is begging for my hat, "we'll sort it out if shit happens" type of comradery.

Excellent! GoldEd+ (and GoldEd) has always been my favorite sysop mail
reader. I still enjoy it--and the fruits of your labors--today via SSH into

I was the one, about 22 years ago now, that begged Alexander (I think that

rather begrudgingly but it worked for what I needed then. These days, MBSE supports JAM so it's nothing exciting though I cannot for the life of me get the personal mail can to work under GED+/Linux.

I prefer to use offline mail these days as it's easier for me to work with
and I can take my time catching up on mail rather than get a huge backlog in GoldEd+.

The more likely scenario is something happening to me personally. And thats when the Z1 Sysops can easily call another election to have me replaced. Maybe Z1 goes without the nodelist for a days, maybe a few weeks, but nobody really cares because Z1 is largely quiet, laid-back, whatever happens happens, we do not have the Nodelist Police, its 2022
not 1992, nobody here is begging for my hat, "we'll sort it out if shit happens" type of comradery.

I still have it here if needed and I have it partially converted into a BASH script if need be. But you're right; Z1 could go without a nodelist for a month and no one would notice. <G>

It's similar to how in Micronet I would only put out a nodelist manually
when needed but certain sysops started complaining about not having a weekly nodelist. So I took the time, learned how to use MakeNL, and set it up.
Now I don't hear a peep from anyone anymore.

Then again, that's all you have been. Getting voted out of the IC position in 2004 and making a fool of yourself saying that because Z2 supposedly made up 89% of the nodelist, your ZCC vote should make up 89% of the vote...what kind of fools do you think we are?

You've been in Fidonet for over 30 years and have added no value to the network. You're a prime example of why no one wants to join Fidonet anymore.

You have no business being involved with the FTSC. You have never contributed anything positive; just insults and lies to prop up your battered Flemish ego. It's funny that you avoid saying my name: are you afraid of the truth that no one but your asskissing buddies like Oli, Winifred, and Michiel will think of you when you admit that the rest of the network doesn't care what you think?

It's pitiful to see a wizened 72 year old man act like such a fool for attention. But, hey, at least it's entertainment on my end.

So, Ward, what FTN software have you written, hmm?

    Oh, that's right...you haven't written any!

Ward as a C does indeed not add any value. (Unless you put Cs in the equation that had even more negative value).

That was one a the biggest BS moves a C made. It should have disqualified him for any C position in Fidonet. But he's got away with it.

You have bypassed the question in the FIDOGAZETTE-echo, so I'm permiting myself to repeat it here:

I second this. That's a horrible thing to say, even to an enemy.

What defines someone or something as "the enemy" ?

The thing is, I don't have the answer to that...

The reason I 'bypassed' the question earlier is because the answer is
different for every person. Like beauty, enemies are in the eye of the beholder. I may define someone as an enemy, and another might consider him
a friend. Each and every human on this planet has a different point of view,
a different way of looking at the world. That's what makes us so great as a species, and so terrible at getting along...

I know that's probably not the answer you're looking for, but it's the only one I can give to that question.
