From Barmed@21:4/127 to All on Mon Feb 1 05:45:13 2021
I've been following several conversations on setting up different mailers /tossers.

What are the advantages or reasons for setting up a different program than
    what Mystic already has?

It's not necessarily something I plan to do anytime soon, but then again I'm still figuring all of this out.

What are the advantages or reasons for setting up a different program than what Mystic already has?

Mystic has a pretty good tosser (my opinion) so you probably don't need anything else. It does file tossing and nodelist compilation too, so you don't need much in the way of external utilities.

It's not necessarily something I plan to do anytime soon, but then again I'm still figuring all of this out.

There might be some feature of a tosser your built in tosser doesn't have so you need another.

Or your BBS may not have a tosser at all, so you need a bare tosser. That was almost always the case in the early days although today most BBSs do have a tosser.

I didn't think I did. But it's interesting to learn about.

I've noticed that. I've seen it mentioned with point software as well.

    Thanks.

Hey Barmed... I see you calling my board frequently, THANK YOU. :P

Just my personal two cents; I am a medium BBS user, and I do NOT use anything other than what Mystic offers.... it gets my messages, from all the FTNs - but I don't know if I have the BEST netmail support - Which is mostly USER ERROR. Lol.

Just saying that you can totally just use the Mystic software, and you'd be pretty much setup. PRETTY MUCH. :P

Weell, yours and BPs are Mystic boards I could remember the address for
    easily.

I'm experimenting with other apps in Termux on my phone besudes the BBS. Syncterm seem to work mostly fine, except for some reason it's doing
basically 1/3 of the screen for the terminal and cutting the board in half, making things tricky to maneuver around with. So most of those calls are fooling with screen sizes to get that better.

The ultimate goal is I'm figuring that any program that will work in Termux could be adapted as an Android app to improve mobile BBS access.

As I mentioned, I don't plan on changing my setup at thus point, I'm just wanting to u derstand why people do.

I agree. It seems to do pretty much whatever I need it to, at least as I
    figure out what I want.

The couple of hiccups I am having are due to me figuring out things.

I dislike using terminals on a phone.. maybe a tablet would look nice; I've heard good things about fTelnet, but thats a native Android/iPhone app. I do think using a full term in Termux is way cooler - which you're working on, so.. kudos. I guess it WOULD be pretty awesome to have Syncterm on a tablet; but I'm on Apple hardware so I think I'm pretty much locked out.

    :/

Does anyone know of any BBS software that can auto-wrap all content to
ANY width? E.g. mobile aspect ratio?

I liked the idea of fTelnet, but I couldn't get it to work for me, and emails to the author were unanswered. Other Telnet apps kind of fake the ANSI, which defeats the pur'ose to me.

I'm guessing if I can get the screen size displaying correctlly, Suncterm
would port to a native Android app pretty well.

I loved my Pebble smartwatch. I had the 2nd generation one called the Pebble Time, the vibration motor in that watch was a beast, you'd never miss a notification on that puppy. It was also cool as a alarm clock (if you wore it to bed) to not wake up your significant other.

I wore mine right up until I bought the Apple Watch.

I've got 2 Nook Color e-readers, which aren't supported devices any longer.
I saw a couple of Articles about how to root them and make them into Android tablets or even a Linux based one.

They problem I have with doing anything with them is I need to find the
cables for them, since B&N in their infinite wisdom, made them with their own unique cables.

If I could get thise running, it would open up more possiblities for my experiments.

I heard that there are now open-source new softwares to load on old Pebble's... I don't own one, but if you still have yours I'm fairly sure theres some new development going on!

I hear about it on some podcasts that I listen to...

Terminals on a phone... and not even from my own BBS.

I'm feeling that pain right now in JuiceSSH on vert.synchro.net, but on my machine I need to use Qodum or NetRunner or SyncTerm if I want the proper code page for SSH.

And to add insult to injury, i can barely navigate the editor on Synchronet.

If I only had total and complete recall of evrrything I've ever learned ;)
