I hate the newest changes [and recent ones] at YouTube. The videos it used to serve to you were driven, in a large part, by who you followed - so even if it was trying to serve you 'other' content, you WOULD see all of your followed channels new videos.

Very recently they've made some changes to the algorithm that I KNOW is taking away the videos that I want to see... its showing me MUCH more stuff it thinks I want and is terribly missing the mark. Worse is that it DOESN'T show me the channels that I specifically follow - I believe if I clicked the notification bell that would help, but its terrible even from where it was a month ago.

Furthermore, YT continues to make other changes that just suck - streaming from my phone to television on my local network sucks and videos sometimes freeze-frame but continue with audio - its just a mess, and getting worse by the week.

    Ick @ YT.

I don't know that it's recent, but I'm always sad that there isn't more user control over what's shown.

Since the point, oftentimes, is what gets you to click, and what gets you to watch longer.

So, if you keep watching cat videos, but you'd really rather stop being tempted by cat videos, it's challenging to make them go away.

And it's not like it'd be a technical masterwork to go, "Show me all videos from all subscriptions, sorted newest to oldest, filtering out all previously watched or marked as no longer needed (as opposed to, "don't show me this" kind of things, which would affect the algorithm.)"

They _could_ do that, but choose not to have it as an option, probably because it's way less addictive when there's an obvious end.

It has started trying to show me a lot more political videos and/or news
videos about politics recently. Back during the previous election cycle,
I did some experimenting and proved that it does so regardless of viewing history.

As you noted, I could log on and watch nothing but videos about cars, computers, and from channels I was subscribed to. The next time I would
log on or open the ap, at least 7 of the first 10 videos suggested would
have something to do with US politics.

Something else I have noticed this time -- I took a vacation where I
drove out to California along old US 66 in September and then spent 3
days in the LA area. Since then, I have been seeing political ads
off-and-on that are not for my area and, for a while, I was getting a lot
    of ads in Spanish.

I just know that over the past month the algo has failed me in new ways that I haven't felt before and I know its different - [terrible] for example, I used to get 1A Audit content suggested all the time, but recently switched over to poker related content - and now no 1A stuff comes up, at all, not even channels that I AM subbed to. (However I mostly didn't sub to any 1A Audit channels, YT just used to do a GOOD job at suggesting them...)

And, as I mentioned something is different about streaming from a phone to device. (iPhone to my TV on the same local network.)... I run videos at 1.25x and while streaming must revert now b/c the video feed stops and I only get audio - its new, tho; that never happened before.

Point is, I know they're mucking with things that are giving me a worse experience - and I pay... I really wish we could have a video aggrigater that grabbed all YT, Vimeo, Twitch, etc. videos and served only who we wanted to see...

Agree about all you mentioned - as stated, for me its other topics but... I don't like these changes and its not working [well] for me.

Another example, 'Elevated Systems' is a computer channel I watch and they release a video every week - but over the last 4 months I missed all his content... stupid.

I think it's not _quite_ that, but have you heard of grayjay? Grayjay.app, and it seems to have at least something along that line, though I don't know how many different services they support, at this point.

And that's so _awful_, too, because generally I want my political content be when I seek it out, not something that seeks me out, with the intent of enraging me so that I remain engaged with the site.

Which is what is generally so much more pleasant, here. Enraging political content not allowed, and we're all a bunch of hobbyists who aren't going to be making money on this. The incentives are better aligned.

I don't follow these things, but as far as I know, they support all the services than matter, and then they have a plugin system so you can add more if you feel like it.

At its core it was born as an anti-censorship tool, because it is designed for you to follow a guy over all the platforms he is active in, so if they ban him from one, you will be able to hear from him using the same application.

I think there is more alternatives to YT that deserve more attention.
Anybody fancy LIBRE and its web frontend Odysee.com?

I publish there my demos (video recordings) and occasionally search for some content there. Hard to chase subscriptions as a content creator, but from a consumer perspective it's really nice, ad free platform where i don't need some hacking to actually download an offline version of the clip!
