Arcturus and Spring Globular Clusters (all night)
As the evening sky darkens, bright Arcturus pops into view in the eastern sky, heralding the summer stargazing season. Four globular clusters populate the
sky just west of Arcturus. At visual magnitude 6.2, M3 is the brightest, and sits nearly 12 degrees above (northwest of) Arcturus. Dimmer NGC5466 is 5 degrees west of M3. Another bright globular designated M53 sits 15 degrees to the west of Arcturus and only 1 degree to the northeast of Diadem, Coma Berenices' brightest star. NGC5053, the dimmest of the four globulars, is located 1 degree southeast of M53.
