    Hi! mark,

    A quick question or three, if I may... Does it make any sense to retain the messages tossed to the dupe area, for any great length of time?

    FE maintains a dupe database doesn't it? So, any messages there are just for the sysops perusal... to fix any routing or link problems, aren't they?

    yes...
    certainly when you have stuff connected through more than 1 uplink
    or when you have run a few times "%rescan" at your uplink

    That's what is happening now. I have over 1.100 messages in the dupe area. I might set the maintenance to keep them for 3 days only and be done with them.

    I found out how -not- to do that too many times on a test system here (with Crashmail). I started off with copying the JAM files to the system and then commenced forwarding messages to it, and then did a %rescan. Of course, a lot of dupes made it into the echo areas since the original messages' data had never been entered into the dupe database. A definite 'no no'. I deserve a smack! for that. :)
