• Fastecho Problems?

From Gaylen Hintz@1:288/34 to all on Thu Aug 25 14:16:42 2011
    Hello all!

I have just installed FastEcho and seems to work pretty well. However, I am having a problem now with it saving the echo
information. I have it set , under fesetup, for 50 nodes and 800 echos but I am now at 580 and it's no longer saving the information.

here is an excerpt from my logs....

! 14:14:23 Error opening area IMAIL_HELP: No such file or directory ! 14:14:23
Error opening area INTBBS_WK: No such file or directory ! 14:14:23 Error opening area PET_CHAT: No such file or directory ! 14:14:23 Error opening area
PROBOARD: No such file or directory ! 14:14:23 Error opening area PROGCHAT: No
such file or directory ! 14:14:23 Error opening area PUNS: No such file or directory ! 14:14:23 Error opening area PYTHON: No such file or directory + 14:14:24 NetMail: 0, EchoMail: 0

Ok, I can use Gecho and set up these areas and then it seems to work fine. Any
ideas what might be going on? FWIW, I do have it registered and have the key in place.

Thanks in advance for any help

Check that the drive/path listed under "Group/Area Defaults" for the group in question is valid. Also, make sure that the uplink you are receiving the areas from is allowed to create new areas.

Some good advice there. It might help to generate an Areas.BBs file from FeSetup, and do a compare/eyeball for any gaps where there ought not be any: as
Andrew says it could the uplink or (I'd guess) most likely the path to the JAM files is slightly off.

I've just been musing over the problem for the last hour or so, and I recalled I last had the same problem back in the (arbitrary) cusp of Nov '97-->Aug '98.
So, I checked my old logs for that period (386 archives for the period but luckily I have Total Commander available to do string searches inside of archives). At that time I was changing uplinks (from a local BBS) to a LD link, pulling out of another zone (that collapsed). A lot of my (point) downlinks were shutting down as well, which left huge gaps in the state of the echo area(s) definitions. Hence the exact same error messages and problem as yours.

Double-double check your paths, dude. Good luck with it.

    Cheers,
    Paul.

what message base format are you using?? do the directories and/or files for those areas actually exist? i get the same thing on my system when new areas are set up... i use JAM bases for all my areas... i just let it go until some mail actually arrives to be placed in the areas... i could, however, create the
areas via one of my editors, though... when FE tosses mail to those areas, they
will be fully created at that time... currently, though, the data files are not
there and it rightfully lets you know... no problems there...

Still working on it, thanks for the advice but even after triple checking the paths... no such luck... I can create the areas with gecho but not fastecho. Gonna have to dig deeper into the docs I'm afraid but thanks for all of your help.

I'm using JAM message base format, works well with EleBBS and Proboard. :)

actually arrives to be placed in the areas... i could,

Ummm, yes... the directories do exist and initially I would add the areas and they would immediately show up. Hmmm, well if that's the way it works I'm sure
it will be fine then. :)

however, create the areas via one of my editors, though...
when FE tosses mail to those areas, they will be fully created
at that time... currently, though, the data files are not

OK, cool.. thanks for the helpful advice.
