• Linux vs. Windows

Might as well admit that Mac is no longer in the running. As a child my daddy, Sihkahr, Cradeled me in his right arm promgraming with his left. I was born
and raised around so many computers and OS's that I often have this problem... Linux or Windows?

I myself originaly disliked Linux, but as I tried it, I found that Linux beat Windows in more ways than I could imagine!
It rarely has an error (mine has yet to ever crash, yes even after some stupid little 'bugs'), emulators for windows are easily available, allowing me to
play all of my favorite games, and of course, It's pretty ^_~ (forgive me for that, I'm random.)

As Windows is progressing it is getting weaker and weaker, or at least so it seems to me. You don't ever have to change much when it comes to the viruses, they all seem to get in. Kubuntu and Red Hat have never had any bad viruses. I was originally all Windows, merely because it was what I had on my computer, but after countless BSOD's and small annoyances with Windows, I feel I should fully move to Linux (I currently have Kubuntu, Red Hat, FreeDOS, and Windows 7 all on one computer.)

I am typing this on an iMac 20", and I have to pipe up and ask why you think that Mac is no longer in the running... is this a personal choice or a comment on Apple?

Apple has a growing marketshare, and it's not just because of the iPhone or iPod.

i used to be a die-hard mac hater. now i bought a macbook unibody. the hardware rules. the osx os is pretty great, and i'm fond of the layout/etc growing up running various linuxii (linuces?) os'.

imo apple is still in the running and not just because i own one, but because m$ has really blown a lot of chances with vista (regardless of your opinion and the validity of it there is a stigma that followed vista like it did with migraine edition). win7 looks like it's finally got the sweet spot again. though i wont be upgrading myself - no need to, xp does everything i need and then some.

my opinion/hunch is that macs are getting a lot of ship-jumper types of users because of this and the fact that as far as linux has evolved, it's still not friendly enough for most people to install it (unless it comes pre-installed). linux has come a long way, but i think it's not really something someone like my mom or father-in-law could install/maintain. using it once installed yes, no prob there.
