Due to recent events regarding a false-positive detection with Clam Anti-Virus, as per the FILEGATE echo I am issuing the following
"official addendum".
D'Bridge does NOT contain a virus, spyware, malware or anything which would cause apparent emotional stress or issues for someone who is technically-adept at running a Fido system... specifically a large
mail or File distribution system.

Due to recent events regarding a false-positive detection with Clam Anti-Virus, as per the FILEGATE echo I am issuing the following "official addendum".
D'Bridge does NOT contain a virus, spyware, malware or anything
which would cause apparent emotional stress or issues for someone
who is technically-adept at running a Fido system... specifically a
large mail or File distribution system.
Nor should it cause any concern for someone able to understand the
concept of a false-positive... without deleting files from said distribution system (essentially being the "nanny" protecting your
system from my actions), or gleefully Netmailing the author telling
him to "clean up his mess".
The virus Clam AV claims my code has, would immediately cause a tell-tale sign of infection on a Windows computer the moment D'Bridge is
installed. Specifically modifying system files and generally
causing things to "not be right". Given that the false-positive has existed for quite some time, prior to SR13, and here we are May
28th 2017, I would say its safe to assume that the problem is with
Clam AV, and not a "mess" that I have to "clean up".
So the author hereby apologises that recent code updates trigger the sky
to be falling for an open-source anti-virus program while every
other anti-virus solution on the planet gives the okay...
specifically Enterprise-grade anti-virus products.
The author also apologises that the operator of a major mail and file distribution systme had to involve their spouse to test my executable
code despite clear evidence of a false-positive, despite my logical
and factual explanation, and the fact that theres no way I could
EVER publish something nefarious without incurring the lifelong
wrath of every single Sysop in Fidonet. Apparently believing the
words and actions of someone who has been developing Fido software
and tools since 1994, and running a major mail system of his own,
using his own software, is not good enough.
The author also apologises for hearing nothing but crickets chirping when it comes to reports of viruses or any remotely-nefarious actions
caused by my doing.
Thank you. I welcome any comments or suggestions to help me better
publish products that will not cause turmoil or anguish.

You are not the one who should be apologizing. I didn't see the condemnato of D'Bridge in Z1C or anywhere else, but since I no longer archive anything outside my purview, it may have been posted in a place I no longer visit or simply missed it. In any case, whether I missed that despicable notice or not, I condemn it.

My none freeware anti virus software didn't detect a problem.
Still, I have to wonder why any SysOp would put their eggs in one basket by using just one virus detector. Is it the be-all of all virus detectors? I all of the years I have used D'Bridge, I have not had the problem which see to have cropped up all of a sudden in other systems not using what I use. Maybe the detractors would like to try using Malwarebytes Premium on the D'Bridge archive and see what it says.
I was able to download DB399SRD.ZIP from the filegate this morning, so mayb that isn't a given anymore.

This is why the queen is in my twit filter. She's never said anything worth reading anyway, it's all nonsense. I'd have been banned long ago if I didn't have a HUB who did not play fidonet's stupid games either.

According to the FILEGATE echo she just figured out how to manually run a false-positive test and nothing came back. Now because she was told by Vince that IT HAS A VIRUS, I'm sure she will find it somewhere. Vince apparently knows everything... even more than Mark knows. His word was taken verbatim.
I'm still busy trying to clean the mess and publish a CLEAN file... I
think I need help with that, I think I'd better ask someone to do my job for me and make sure its clean before I offend anyone further.

Chris who? And what was done that caused him to leave? I sure
haven't heard the story.
Hi Ward,
In the midst of hurried Memorial Day Weekend celebrations and
preparations I also admit I sent Netmail to the HUB and cc'd Nick
saying I'd ask Nick to "Clean up this mess". Oh well. You may
all continue your slamming of Fidonet people here.
We all know this whole situation was brought on by a false positive
for virus with Nick's files, and I guess there is nothing he can do
to change that false positive? Meanwhile, when Ben stated he'd
contacted ClamAV.Net regarding these files as false-positives, the
shit in here turned to Ben...because he'd rather wait for
confirmation from ClamAV.Net before putting Nick's file on his
system... unreal.
The full story of that HUB is that this HUB's software, MBSE, will not toss software that Nick released as distributed because if fails a virus test th MBSE's internal virus checker uses, which happens to be ClamAv IIRC. Yes, brought to my attention by this HUB in the UK who runs MBSE, I checked the other files released by Nick and saw other files in the past had the same problem. And Yes, I asked Nick to send a new release that would pass all vi scanning tools.

I'd go grab a beer instead. I'd really like to see the faces of anyone who has seen the D'Bridge code. (-:
The Clam AV should clam
up in the meantime because I'd trust anything coming from Nick's system before I'd place blind trust in something I haven't heard about till now.

I do own a Ford F150 in the USA. Great vehicle.
It leaks some oil, but I consider that a perk. 8-)
My 1992 Chevy with nearly 400,000 miles leaks, too. This means I am constantly changing oil. ;-) I only need to change the filters every so often.

Ha! Mine is shifting into overdrive.
