• Figured it out - but need solution to get working again.

Did some more digging in the *.MSG areas for Dovenet to see what might be going
on. Here is what is going on:

    1) When I did the AREAFIX and %RESCAN, each area in Dovenet sent all the messages for each area - up to where there was a gap in the *.MSG numbering. For instance it downloaded 9550 in Dove-Gen. There is no 9551.MSG - it jumps to 9552.MSG for whatever reason.

Same with the other areas in Dovenet. The %RESCAN stopped before a missing *.MSG number and never got past that.

It seems that due to that fact, no new messages are going to Mystic because it is still waiting for the missing message to get past that point. It is like the counter is off for the node since I did that %RESCAN.

Probably wouldn't have been an issue if I never did the %RESCAN and just started with new messages to each area.

Is there a way to force each of the areas to jump to the latest *.MSG in each area to at least get new messages flowing in?

I have tried AREAFIX to remove the groups and add them back in again, but the same thing is happening. There are many missing *.MSG files in each group, so it doesn't appear to be an anonomly.

Any idea on what I can try to at least get these areas tossing with the latest *.MSG number or some other way to clear and fix it?

    Thanks!

    - Mark

I don't quite understand what you need {chuckle} BUT I do have a way to manually renumber .Msg files in a directory if that would help. One DOS command

plus my utility will do it all. :)

If you want the renumber utilities, download http://cmech.dynip.com/netfido.zip

and unzip everything to your path somewhere (c:\windows\system32\ is ok) then open a command prompt, Cd to the sub-dir containing the .Msg files you want renumbered, and type NETRENUM.BAT.

Note: NetRenum.Bat will also build a backup archive (NetMsgBk.Zip) of all your .Msg files in the current directory prior to execution. This can be deleted after verifying the results of the renumbering ...

(Repeat for each directory you need renumbered ...)

FYI: Included in NetFIDO.Zip is the command line version of the 7Zip program (7ZA.Exe)

I'm assuming it is normal to have missing *.MSG files where it skips numbers now and then (maybe dupe detection or something). It appears that %RESCAN doesn't like the break in the number seqence, however.

After that it appears to never have it's LASTREAD counter updated to start receiving new messages. At least that is my thought at this point.

I just got word that Gaylen is shutting down his BBS, so I'm going to have to re-think how to get Dovenet over here anyway.

I do like the way we have been doing it using a bogus FTN network to my D'Bridge hub if I can find another person to gate it this way for me.

If ever you are interested, I offer Dovenet via FTN to Shawn Highfield already,
for the same purpose. If you would like a feed here, you're more than welcome..
and shouldn't be too hard since we already connect for at least one other network.

I use zone 723 here to feed Dovenet. Just hit me up when you're ready to make the switch!

Works great, and has for a couple (few?) years now. ;)

Awesome, thanks! I just posted in Dove-Net Sysops asking for a new feed before
    I read your post here.

I didn't realize you had a feed to Shawn using that same method. That is how Gaylen and I have had things working for years, too!

Shouldn't be difficult to change things over here since the framework is already in place. Just have to use your nodelist and change the network info. I still need to figure out how to kick-start my D'Bridge Dove-Net feed to my Mystic BBS, but I'm thinking about resetting everything after the switch so that will probably solve the issue.

Thanks, and I'll be in touch. I have until the end of January.

Cool, yeah, that is the same thing I was doing with Gaylen for the past several
    years.
