What about using a portable AC? LG makes one that I believe is 8,000 BTU and only draws 6 amps. I picked up a simular model on sale at Walmart.

That is exactly what I have running in my office to suppliment the central A/C in the house. I picked this unit up at Lowes a few years ago for around $200.

Most of the homes in my neighborhood have two central A/C units (two zones), but ours has one. It is a 5 ton evaporator coil - but when it hit 97 degrees here a few days ago it was tough to keep the upstairs cool without my extra unit running, too.

Not to mention the "energy days" our local power company has been having where they cycle off your compressor for half the day. On those days, I turn the temp down to 66 degrees in the morning and tell everyone to wear a coat just to
get a head start on cooling before they shut it off.

I bought mine at Lowes for around $250. Here is a video that someone made of the unit. I have been happy with it and used it for around three years.

Are the taxi plates made out of diamonds?

Sounds like that is a government money grab - sort of like trying to buy a liquir license in our state. I wouldn't mind owning a liquor store - they never go out of business no matter what. Nice steady retirement income for the
    future, too.

For all the beer I have bought in my lifetime, I should have stock in a store already.

From what I remember reading in the manual, there are two ways you can deal with the water. Connect the water outlet hose and have it physically run into a pan or somewhere - or have the A/C unit convert it to water vapor and shoot out the exhaust.

I took the easy route - convert to water vapor and shoot out the exhaust.

I have never had a problem with water on the floor or anything - even with super humid days that we get here in Maryland. It must really work and shoot it out the exhaust.

Is that the inside model you are talking about? All you need there is an exhaust out the window, and of course, like a dehumidifier, empty the water

power restores, so that made it much easier... then I labeled my crap
    with a magic marker.

I did get smart after 8 years. Now I phone the emergancy line and force
the super to come change the fuse. He's an asshole anyway.

Are you aware you can get screw in resetable fuses?

If I put those in here and am caught I am charged a fee of $10 per fuse replaced by the super, plus $240 service charge. If caught twice I'm
    evicted.

So far they have not played with my pension though. I've been retired since 1992. Now, I'm just tired <G>

That's good. I'm sure your pension will be fine. I have no hope of ever retiring the current king of Canada is going to spend everything I'll ever make.

I don't have a super for this place, its only three apartments in a house.

But the land-lady is never around... literarly. I have to chase her down to give her the rent. Phone calls get returned usually three or four days later.

sounds like calling the asshole on the emergency line is the proper thing to do, then... even if he doesn't like it ;) ;) ;)

Even with a super nothing gets done around here. ie: We still don't have a peephole and haven't had one for 2.5 years when they replaced the door that kept falling off the hinges. I ask him once a month minimum.

I doubt it matters much who is in charge. The last one spent a lot of money as well, except for the last year in office in a last ditch attempt to get re-elected

I mentioned earlier that my portable AC sends the evaporation out with
the exhaust, so there is no pan to empty.

But even if it didn't, I'm sure there is a D'Bridge scheduled job that could manage that task..
