I unpacked this little pocketbook from a recent collection. Hardcover editions are listed at $100 or higher. Someone listing on A-n wants $350.
I wouldn't call this "a present-day Crusoe" (as the title proclaims) because he went to live on a deserted island on purpose and he only lived there a total of 7 yrs between two trips as told in this book. But the story makes you forget about winter weather! And.. he sure had a lot of time on his hands to write about it all. He was 50 when an opportunity to settle on the island arose. Later, he developed an injury, was rescued by curious boatsmen in the area, recovered off-island, married and had two kids. Then he went BACK to the island all by himself and lived out the rest of his life there. He succumbed to a stomach cancer at age 73.
