    Darn propane tank gauge reports 55% full (see link to photo taken last night) So, either the gauge is faulty and lying to me ? and the tanks are empty, or the gauge is accurate and I am not getting the 55% gas remaining. And in both those cases, the situation is not my fault. Clearly the mechanics of the tank/gauge system is broken ? and that may have been the case for years and not discovered until I noticed.

    I am not very familiar with gas equipment, but I would start with a pressure gauge.

    The thing on the tank is most likely a pressure gauge that is scaled to represent capacity - I guess.

    Yes. Probably. Moreover, looking at the inscription on it, you can take readings from it remotely.

    Hmmm. Yeah. That does look interesting. My guess is that it is "ready" to be fitted with a sensor/transmitter? ..but I doubt that anything like that is active - there is no power source to the tanks.
