Hello Stas!

For Russians, this is normal. We do not understand at all
how one can go to jail for using a credit card belonging
to a husband or wife.
That would probably be fine here in Canada too. The only
exception might be if one of spouses reported the card lost or
stolen, then the last purchases are suspect and cancelled -
and I would be out of product.
However in my case, the young lady seemed open about
everything. She was practically the personally shopper for the
owner of the card, assuming that she was given the authority
to shop for the owner of it.
I really had no reason to doubt her story. It's not like she
went all over the shop and just picked the most expensive
things. If it was a $200+ purchase, *then* I might be
suspect.
But technically, it was not much different had she called the
shop over the phone and given me the numbers. I wouldn't have
a way to verify if she had authority to use the numbers or
not.
These days, people don't even have to give me any details of
the cards they are using. They just swipe/tap/dip on their own
and enter the PIN when required. When a person taps a card
(using the touchless feature) they don't even need to use a
PIN at all - the card could be stolen - but I would never
know.
Maybe I could have persuaded to take selfie with her. Then I
would have a mugshot incase I needed to report her to the
police.
We shall see if this experience will result in a Chargeback.
Hope not.
