From Moderator@1:3634/12 to All on Sat Apr 1 00:00:02 2017
Conference rules for the BINKD echo: rev. 29 May 14
Posting Frequency: 1st of the month.
    -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

The objectives of the BINKD echo are:

To provide a conference dedicated to the ubiquitous BinkD mailer in
its various incarnations for several unices, OS/2, Windows, Amiga and
DOS. Discussions may include technical help about the binkd software,
the binkp protocol, binkp implementations in other software (Argus,
Radius, Taurus, BBBS, Mystic) and the binkd-based binkp.net domain
    organization.

NOTE: fidonet.net was lost to a domain squatter and cannot be used any
more by fidonet systems for f.n.z domain lookups. binkp.net is
now being provided for this function.

The rules of the BINKD echo are:

    1. No ads or flaming.

    2. No profanity.

    3. Stay on-topic as much as possible.

    4. English is the official language allowed in this echo, however,
a message in your native tongue is allowed as long as there is
an English translation in the same message.

    5. Be kind to others - they'll be kind to you.

    6. Please let the moderator do his job.

    7. Discussion of moderator actions should be done via netmail.

Jost checked, it expires in ~20 days, if anyone wants to be a hero and
    regain control over it.

i wonder if anyone ever found out the squatter's name? AIUI, they're still squatting on the domain as well as have set up a wildcard response to all DNS lookups on the domain...

fidonet.org is renewed every year, I don't see the problem.

Sorry, just checked all three generic TLDs since I didn't know if any
would be usable if available, didn't mean to imply it was.

The whois info is more or less hiding all details these days except the
dates and NS servers, so I didn't see much of a difference in the output
from them, apart from the 2027 enddate.

I don't think so, as I pay for it.

If you use the whois from for example GoDaddy for fidonet.org it will list the registrant country as BE.

Yes, I see now in the output that BE is visible, but it is also well
hidden next to all of this:
Registrant Name: Data Protected Data Protected
    Registrant Organization: Data Protected
    Registrant Street: 123 Data Protected
    Registrant Street:
    Registrant City: Kirkland
    Registrant State/Province: WA
    Registrant Postal Code: 98033
    Registrant Country: US

    Registrant Phone: +1.0000000000

    Registrant Phone Ext:

    Registrant Fax: +1.0000000000
    Registrant Email: noreply@data-protected.net

Admin Name: Data Protected Data Protected
    Admin Organization: Data Protected
    Admin Street: 123 Data Protected
    [...]

Makes it hard to "trust" any data apart from NS-records and dates.

So yes, I managed to imply .org was squatted erroneously, but then again
just being registered via BE in itself wouldn't be proof this domain
also wasn't. I'm sure there are squatters there too.

    Janne,

Makes it hard to "trust" any data apart from NS-records and dates.

Personally I am not very happy about this, I have no problem with having my info listed...

My name is also in the phone directory.

    Fidonet.org expires 2019-02-26,

is fine at this point... IIRC, Z2C owns it and it is operational to a point... just not for fnz address conversion, AFAIK...

    fidonet.net at 2019-07-21,

that's the original one spoken of above...

so perhaps someone could squat one of them back with some luck next
    year,

you can't squat unless you can get in before the owner can... even then, the owner still has certain rights to take back the domain within some period of time...

    fidonet.com is crazy, paid until 2027-10-03. O_o

some folks tend to look further ahead in time than others... but, that one could be lost, too, if the notification address(es) are no longer used or accessible... that's what happened with fidonet.net...
