From Kurt Weiske@1:218/700 to All on Wed Dec 15 09:44:00 2010

    Hi, all!

I've run my BBS since 1990; when I started out I ran all my apps on an AT running DOS 3.21.

While my BBS is now on the internet and running on XP, I've started using
more and more of my old DOS apps in a DOSBOX window. In XP, lots of them
won't run at all, but in a DOSBOX window they run like a charm.

Is anyone else running DOSBOX? I'm having a lot of fun being able to run a "real" DOS again.

    Hello Kurt...

What are you calling a DOSBOX exactly? Are you running command.com instead of cmd.exe?

He's calling DOSBOX, DOSBOX ... it's on sourceforge.org ... just google DOSBOX. It allows programs to be run in a "DOS box" at a set speed, cpu, ram, etc. Great for old games that only ran on 25 MHz. machines, etc.

Dosbox (http://www.dosbox.com/) is an X86 emulator with DOS. It emulates a
DOS environment very well. From their web page:

DOSBox is a DOS-emulator that uses the SDL-library which makes DOSBox very
easy to port to different platforms. DOSBox has already been ported to many different platforms, such as Windows, BeOS, Linux, MacOS X...

DOSBox also emulates CPU:286/386 realmode/protected mode, Directory FileSystem/XMS/EMS, Tandy/Hercules/CGA/EGA/VGA/VESA graphics, a SoundBlaster/Gravis Ultra Sound card for excellent sound compatibility with older games...

You can "re-live" the good old days with the help of DOSBox, it can run
plenty of the old classics that don't run on your new computer!

DOSBox is totally free of charge and OpenSource.

Until I find a 32 bit nodediff compiler, DOSBOX is my only way of running qdiff to compile my nodelists! :)
