• SNAILS!

From Kevin Nunn@1:397/10 to All on Fri Oct 13 10:39:09 2006
I've had aquariums off and on for oh... 20 years now, ranging from
little 10 gallons to a 70 gallon. All fresh water, and with good
filtering systems, etc. But, for the first time ever, all of a sudden I
have snails in my tank and I have no idea how they got there.

Currently I have a 29H tank, with two angelfish that are about hmmm 6-7
years old (big suckers!), about two months ago I picked to two
suckermouth plecos to help clean the tank. Not sure what happened, but
the two plecos didn't make the transition good and passed away, but
around the same time snails started populating my tank. There are a few
other inhabitants of the tank, I do try to keep 5-10 glass shrimp in the
tank, because they are really something to watch, especially at feeding
    time.

So anyway, I figure the snail piggybacked in with the Plecos and maybe
the shrimp, but it just really surprised me that they just all of a
sudden showed up and in good numbers. They must have an active sex life.

while a number of little snails from each snail and so on and so on.

I use some times a pice oh metall (spoon) and squese them so the fish
    can eat them.
Or you get a tutle, they do like to eat snails

so that was my little english exercise :)

This is my point of view.

That explains alot right there, I think I remember knowing that but it
didn't occur to me at the time.

Good ideas, and a turtle might be a good addition to my tank

Good job! You did better that some of the people that know english as a
    first language! :)

    Turtle eats also fish.
There are two groups of them, ...

swimming away if the turtle come,
better the turle is dreaming first time,
so fishes learning, swimming faster AND
otherwise fishes don't know what the turtles plan is.

    Best fishes survive.

I can't help you with the snails but I have found with my 29 gallon that 1 Pleco and 1 Chinese algae eater are a better combo than 2 plecos. I think the plecos consume algae faster than the Chinese algae eater. 2 Pleco combo for me lately has been dying, but the 1 and 1 combo seems to work well.

Yea, I read about that the other day.

My 29gallon is down to the last angelfish. I had two in there, about 6-7
years old, one died in Febuary and I am not sure how much longer the
other one will last, so I started considering what I wanted to do with
the tank. I am also going to upgrade most of the equipment on the tank
so I was considering marine or planted freshwater. After pricing out a
marine tank, I decided against it and will probably go freshwater
planted and Clown Loaches was on my list, mainly for snail control.
Otherwise I'll probably get 10-20 small tetras, either neon or similar
    to live amongst the plants.

First comes equipment upgrade though, planning on an eclipse hood,
converted to compact flourescent, new hangon filter, heater and misc
other stuff. Probably get a "plant set" from liveaquaria.com and I'll
get the fish either locally or from liveaquaria.com as well.
