• Dark Ages Midi?

From Timothy Townsend@1:109/263 to All on Tue Sep 25 19:05:56 2001
    Hi all!

I know this is a tough ask but:
I managed to get dark ages running on my athlon 800 using moslow right on 12%. However, using a SBLive, and having all the config I need in autoexec.bat and config.sys (I think), I can't get the midi going. Now is there a trick to making the game think I have an old sounblaster card? I am thinking is there a
certain line I need in either config.sys or autoexec.bat? Has anyone had any luck getting their soundcard going nicely with the older Apogee games - Pre 1993?

    Many thanks!

I am guessing that Dark Ages just reads your config files for the soundcard settings??? Is there a setup file/option in the game...I couldn't find one...though that could just be me! :)

Sorry Joe, for some reason I always get adlib confused with midi. And for the other statement - sorry about that, I meant I was just looking for general tips
getting midi working with those older apogee titles.

Does anyone know how to get old DOS games in general to use AWE32 Midi withwith
a Soundblaster Live? I want the higher quality instrument samples - general midi is OK but I want to hear it more like the composer intended.

I admit I don't know much about sound tech etc :( I am not sure but do these games like ROTT use their own Midi sound engines or something to produce the music and then output that audio through the midi port - would it make a difference using AWE32 over just normal soundblaster midi (which works)?

Well, does the game HAVE midi support? You can't just make a blanket statement like you want to hear midi - it has to have native support for that.

See above - the game has to have MIDI support. ROTT does. You have to look in the docs for each title and see what their support is. If it's one of our games, you can ask me here, I can tell you.
