Well, now that I'm back among the living I can repost the question that I did before. How many here into the new FT8 mode? Perhaps we worked. I may have
2 or 3 K of contacts on that mode. I am working it on 10 through 40 metets.

40 meters is a real bonus for me because I only have a small MFJ-1775 dipole and I am amazed on how it perfoms especially in the FT8 mode. I am able to work Europe, Africa, NA, SA, and even a little PAC with it. I've go one "once in a lifetime SSB Contact in JA with the 40 meter antenna. It's confirmed by QSO for a new country on 40.

I'm using the FT8 mode for new band and mode countries, and counties. I check counties using information from LBOTW and a call book CD. I have 2060 digital counties worked. These are combo of all digital modes.

The 9U DXPEDITION is on and they have said they may work some FT8. This give me my best shot to work them on 40 if they do FT8 there.

I'm sticking with the R2 release as I think it has the best features. Also
use JTAlertX. Would like to see some improvements in that especially the way it records new band countries. I'm updating those manually as they show up
    in LBOTW.

I and a couple other hams in my area also work FT8, mostly on 20 during the day, some on 40 at night. Also some JT65, but personally I prefer FT8, love the 13 secs.

    Hello Al,

In 2005 I used WSJT for a while, but it didn't crate any new friends
with me. I like to know a little more of my QSO-partners than their
grid locator and my signal report.

I have the latest WSJT program with FT8 in my BBS for distribution to
other hams that want to use it.

    Hi Al,

My passion for digital started because of my military service where
    I was a TTY operator.

It never became a passion with me, but I have worked RTTY and find it
more enjoyable than the WSJT form.

For one of my DXPeditions to Market Reef (OJ0) I was loaned a japanese
RTTY adapter, maybe NAG or Naigai, that connected to my transceiver.

Since then the digital world has widened but I haven't tried those new
modes. I think that they allow the same communication as the old 850 or
    170 hz shift did.

always facinated by the mechanical wrorkings of the teleype.

I didn't like the clatter of those mechanical but they were readily
available here from shipowners and -companies that threw out the old.

For me the biggest boones have been the ability to use 40 meters with my MFJ-1775 dipole and work around the world or at least into EU, AF SA and PAC and of course NA.

It has allowed me to grab some DX and I'm surprised they call me so my signal must be getting out there. Of course much better success on HF with the SteppIR beam. Being a county hunter for years I am now at 2076 digital counties worked. Striving toward that magical 3077 number.

Some of the them are quite robust. THe mobile county hunters use Domino22 MFSK32, PSK64 and (one of my favorites), Contestia 4/500. We have an award that is to work all the counties with 5 modes. SSB, CW and 3 digital, (unless) you can grab and AM or FM contact on 10, 6, 2 or 432, those modes count too).
