The other day I was thinking about the letters in my Call Sign and if
I reversed the ODR part the letters would make a abbreviation for Radio -

    RDO .

I've been doing things backwards all of my life and the F.C.C. knew it
when they issued this Call Sign to me.

My Primary Call Sign was K4ZIQ before I moved to Indiana from Kentucky
    in the 1960's.

I didn't want to lose that Call so I applied for a Supplemental Call Sign
    and was issued WA9WSB .

Years later I turned in my Four Land Primary Call Sign of K4ZIQ when no one
in my family lived at my original QTH any more.

So WA9WSB became my Primary Call Sign.

Later, some one told me that if I held a 1X3 Call in the past, the F.C.C.
could issue a 1X3 Call to me if I turned in my 2X3 Call and I wouldn't be charged for a Vanity Call Sign.

I sent the application to the F.C.C. and got my Primary Call Sign changed
    to W9ODR .

BTW the ZIQ in my old Four Land Call meant "Zero Intelligence Quotient".

    Hi Ed, I'm Rich, KB2MOB..

Been a ham almost 25 years now. Licensed just out of High School, and ended
up going into Broadcast radio from college. Mostly on air stuff. Now I'm thinking about moving over to the engineering side of the biz. But it seems
to be more IT then RF now a days.

I haven't fired up my rig in a month or so, mostly the holidays with being busy, and a couple other projects that I kind of stumbled into. I kind of
like a fish and a shiny object when it comes to those kinds of things.

I took my Novice Test during Summer Vacation between the 11th and 12th
    Grade in 1958.

After I finished High School I joined the Navy thinking I'd get schooling
as a Electronic Technician but the Navy decided to send me to Radiomans
    School instead.

While I was still in the Navy I went to the local F.C.C. Office and
took tests to get RadioTelephone Operator and RadioTelegraph Operator
    licenses.

Can't remember clearly if I got the Second Class License for both test
or not, I am sure one of them was for Second Class.

I had those Licenses in a box with my High School Diploma, Wedding License
and other personal paper and the box was stolen when someone robbed my
    QTH.

No Radio Gear was touched, just the box, some jewelry, a camera and a
gun bag with a Bolt Action Rifle in it, but the Bolt wasn't in the bag
with the Gun, I had it somewhere else in the house.

I haven't fired up my rig in a month or so, mostly the holidays with

I ain't been on the air for several years, but You know how LIDs are,
    don't You?

I've been called a LID by the Hams in High School before I got my Novice License, but I try to be a Good LID.

I once took the Amateur Extra exam but failed the written part, but walked
out the door with Advanced Class privledges(sp?) because I passed the
    CW part of the exam.

I catch up on Amateur Radio happenings by reading messages about it in
the Ham Radio echos this BBS has on it.

I still don't have a base rig, but I turn on my mobile rig everytime
I'm in the truck. There are several local people that frequent the
repeaters around here, and I enjoy it.

I have my General so want to eventually get an HF rig in the house...
