    Recovery for "ALL" 12 Steppers
    EchoTag: 12_STEPS
    UUCP: alt.recovery.aa

This ECHO was long abandoned by it's moderator and the last
posting on record had said as such. Because this is such a
needed topic and to inject a bit of new-life into fidonet it
    has been gated with alt.recovery.aa

Due to the nature of the recovery echo aliases are strongly
    encouraged in this area.

    With that, here's the gateway rules;

    1. Keep to the topic. I know we are all people and will
occasionally get bent out of shape with some off topic
conversations from time to time. Due to the personal
nature and interactivity of the group topics may wander
    at time

    2. TROLLS - Fidonet and Usenet both have users that are
known as TROLLS. Trolls will bait the participants
with off-topic messages, insults, or other inflammatory
postings in an effort to disrupt the conversation.

When a TROLL posts the best thing to do is... no matter
how much you want do... not reply or feed in to any other
    replies posted to them.

They want you to call them out so they can cause even
more disruption to the Echo/Group. The best thing to
do is -not- feed the trolls... they will get hungry and
    go away.

If a TROLL becomes persistent, we can either filter them
out at the gateway... or if they are on the fido side the
troll will be dealt with via traditional fido methods.

AGAIN: DO NOT FEED THE TROLLS

    3. SPAM - We have a very good filter in place to catch most
of the spam. WHAMMY - our Newsgroup server eats a lot of

spam each and every day. Her cholesterol level is
unbelievable... however she may occasionally pass one
through. Please do not reply to spam messages. We adjust
the filter often and are always improving WHAMMY.

    4. PROFANITY - Usenet has no restriction on profanity...
don't be shocked if some "cuss" appears in a gated
    echo.

    5. ARCHIVE: Usenet is archived through Deja News (now
Google Groups) for an indefinite period of time.
Anything posted here may be archived for a VERY long
    time.

    6. This echo Originates in Zone-1... and we welcome ALL
zones too participate in. The official language of this
    echo is ENGLISH.

    7. Fidonet Zone 2 Sysops and users, take note;
It has come to the attention of this moderator that an
echomail policy, specifically EchoPol 1 and hereafter
referred to as EP1, is in force in Zone 2.

Be advised that this echomail policy is not binding in
Zone 1, nor this echo. Zone 2 Sysops, by posting in this
echo hereby forfeit any rights of protection provided
under the auspices of EchoPol 1.

If Z2 BBS's who carry this echo differ in their opinion
of EP1 and that of this echo's moderator, I suggest that
you not carry this echo on your BBS. If you're a Z2
participant of this echo and your opinion of EP1 differs
from that of the moderator of this echo, I suggest that
you not participate in this echo.

    Hello Allen!

Check with the echolist docs to see if the REST keyword is acceptable for all that verbiage, usually its keywords like /REAL or /SYS etc

This is why I suggested you simply include a disclaimer within the DESC, you cant break anything there.

The only reason why I make the suggestion at all is to allow people to decide whether or not they want to touch the area with a 10 foot pole given the distribution going out to and coming in from newsgroups and the ilk.

Do realize that with the majority of nodes internet capable, some are not going
to see the logic of bringing into Fidonet that which they can already latch onto with their ISP's news server or any other public newserver. BBS packages for Fidonet such as BBBS, Synchronet and even Winserver allow the sysops to bring in newsgroups to sit side by side their other message offerings.

Others in Fidonet prefer to keep Fidonet Fidonet and the Internet Internet.

The logical thing to do is not to pollute Fidonet with outside sources but instead to pollute the outside with Fidonet.. <LOL>

This is why many, including myself, offer up Fidonet Echoes via NNTP.

I will check up on that one.

The difference is the Filter... I don't think that anyone else out there is working on a spam filtration system like ours.

Ross... I am attracting the Newsgroup Denizens via my server... like
you I offer fidonet via NNTP as well. I am drawing a few newsgroup
people who are now starting to subscribe to the fido. echos here. I
have yet to see any posts... but they are downloading and reading
    the fidonet messages.

We are getting some exposure here... and I do hope that by making the newsgroups more accessible... we will ultimately start to have a
    weighted presence in both nets.

BTW... You have a very nice and responsive system.

This is why many, including myself, offer up Fidonet Echoes via NNTP.

I have a sinking feeling you will start to have some of the newsgroup people visiting you as well if things work (hopefully) as planned.

    Allen
