Both Radius and Taurus had their own newly created support echoes, which had hardly any traffic back in their day, most of the discussions stayed in the already established argus echo, so do we really need a special echo created when the argus one still exists?

To give context, although attempted, we didnt have a special echo for every version of windows that came out.. The attempts suffered same fate as radius and taurus echoes, everyone managed to come back to win95.

    Oh c'mon <grin>

    Trapgate is based on Argus

So was : Radius and Taurus

I'm not sure about that Ross.. I mean definitely Radius and Taurus are clones of Argus with slight changes, but I'm not sure that TrapGate is.

I can find out though from Frans. One of the reasons I don't think it's just another clone is that Trapgate doesn't have the menus those other programs have, and right now it can't do both types of outbounds like Argus/Radius/Taurus (Binkley-style outbounds AND FD-Style Arcmail attach outbounds). Trapgate right now only can do Binkley-style.

    Take care,
    Janis

I will bet my life that I am right and your skepticism is wrong..

I have trapgate up (not operationally) and its exactly like ARGUS..

Additionally in the trapgate.pdf he credita MAX MASYUTIN, the original ARGUS author, now in charge of RITLABS.

Radius and Taurus were MOST CERTAINLY derived from the ARGUS source code!!! The
principle author of Radius started Taurus when he had a disagreement with the others he had been collaborating with.

The pisser of it for me was argus was not alwats free, I paid the reg fee, then
Max released it as free not too long after.

Actually all he has done so far is rebrand the mailer, and the promises that the GUI will be changed later..

I need not remind you of the number of dead echoes we are boning.

    Hi Ross,

Do we need to flood a already diluted backbone?

This has nothing to do with diluting the backbone.. if it generates traffic fine.. if not, then it will die and I'll be the first one to suggest to Robert that he should remove it.

Somehow as the beta testing continues and features are added, I don't think that will be necessary

So many softwares were turned into freeware after being shareware.. So what? I

And he's not using the code that would allow Arcmail attach.. only Binkley-style outbounds are used. He said he's going to add Arcmail attach later, as well as a tosser. Right now he's writing code for non-public betas that is increasing the speed of the transfers.

I need not remind you of the number of dead echoes we are boning.

The argus echo has it's crowd. That's fine. I don't expect that crowd to leave it for the trapgate echo.

ARGUS is a BSO only mailer... ARCMAIL attach was added to one of the other afore mentioned variants.

Yes, understand. Earlier today I told Robert not to worry about his initial post here since you hadn't gotten it on the Backbone. The TRAPGATE echo has been expunged from the Echolist as of earlier today.

If you need him to post here to remove that "please add", I'll mention it to him in case he misses your message here.

i've not looked at trapgate (yet) but if he found the taurus source code on sourceforge, well... ;) the code isn't listed under taurus or either of the others but once you get into the code, you can easily see that it is taurus' code... especially in the versioning strings area... it is definitely delphi code ;)

He may not have added it yet.. He hasn't ack'd it here yet, so work is probably
crazy with the Thanksgiving holiday here we recently had. I sent a netmail to Ross and Bob about it, I'm sure Ross will see that sooner or later <g>

    X-Files Discussions!
The X-Files conference covers everything to do with the
hit TV show "The X-Files". Now thirteen years after the
original series ran, the next chapter of The X-Files returns
in 2016 Discussions in this conference will center on any

episode titles and credits, and of course, the scientific
accuracy and feasability of the issues the show raises.
Discussions of UFO's and paranormal phenomena (as they relate
to the show) are also welcome. Visit www.fox.com/the-x-files

Ross is really busy with work this time of year, so yeah, he'll be a lot
slower in taking care of things. I submitted a nodelist entry change last
week and he hasn't responded yet (which is fine by me, I understand).

Me, well, come January, I may be working 8-12 weeks straight with no time
