I have Outlook 2010, but quite like the way Windows 10 mail works. In
Outlook 2010 I have several folders of email addresses. W10 mail imports my basic ontacts folder, but I would like to import the other folders
seperately from contacts. Is there a way?

    Probably :)

You can definately export your contacts from Outlook 2010. File, Import
and Export, Export, choose csv or .PST file - it will depend on how
    you'll import.

And how you'll import will depend on the account you have (Gmail,
    Outlook.com, ISP account, etc etc).

You may need to import then, using the People app... https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/14103/windows-8-people-app-help

I think you're missing the rich irony here.

This is trademark behavior of WLM :-)

It does stuff like this for you.

WLM can be used for email. But for USENET,
using a separate application is recommended.
That's my suggestion. For one, these little
    "signature accidents" won't happen.

You will notice WLM users trying to "fudge"
their usage of WLM, by top-posting. As that is
the easiest way to make it look like WLM is
somehow USENET-compatible. Then they'll give you
some story about "how they like to top-post",
when in fact all they're doing is hiding the
inadequacy of WLM for the job.

A rich tradition of irony, that WLM.

Outlook 2010 is much better than WLM.

Fyi...to import contacts into the Win10 for use in the Win10 Mail app you'll ne ed to have at least one syncable email address
account setup that uses the People app since the People app(the app that manage s contacts) only works with online accounts, unlike
the Mail app which supports POP3, IMAP, EAS, and Exchange account protocols.

Contacts can be added to the Win10 People app by:
    a. adding a syncable account(s) - e.g. Outlook/Live/Hotmail/MSn.com or Office36 5 or Exchange, Google/Gmail, Yahoo, or iCloud.
    b. importing contacts from csv via the web UI People app for the respective Mic rosoft account
    c. manually adding contacts(one at a time) in the Win10 People app.

    Thnks.
I have a couple of outlook/hotmail addresses that I only use for access to
W10 and have no desire to inform/confuse 1000 people that I have a new
    address.
However pretty W10 Mail looks on my desktop, it's nevr going to import
those folders of addresses by the method from that link as 'People' app is
    not the solution for desktop.
I guess I'll have to stick with Outlook 2010 and do my serious emailing
from the desktop with Gmail and Email from my android for one-off mails.
Thanks to folk who tried to help.

As much as I dislike Windows Live Mail, if you're talking about
newsreaders, Windows Live Mail is *much* better than Outlook 2010; No
version of Outlook has ever had newsreading capability.

If you're talking about e-mail clients, as far as I'm concerned, any

Not at all true. None of us is forced to try to untangle such a

Or better, if someone insists on using it and doesn't do what is asked

No, not really. Everyone is missing the thread purpose from the 'op' Jim S.
    - digressing into the usual WLM banter rather than addressing the original post

The op said "quite like the way Windows 10 mail works" and expressed a desire to import Outlook 10 Contacts from various OL10
contacts subfolders into the Win10 Mail app.

The irony - most everyone missed the op's point and request on how to export OL 10 Contacts for use in the Win10 Mail app.

Since the op has now decided to continue use of OL10 in lieu of the Win10 Peopl e app even though misunderstanding the need to
change email addresses all the other WLM discussion remains unrelated.

    But oh so very true.

Perhaps this WLM discussion has convinced some users of it, and indeed a
few lurkers, to get rid of it permanently.

I would have liked to reply to Michael, but my (dialog) newsreader
    deletes sigs.
I would have said Live Mail is no better than Outlook 2010: is it?

Outlook 2010 is much better than WLM.

Fyi...to import contacts into the Win10 for use in the Win10 Mail app you'l
l need to have at least one syncable email address
account setup that uses the People app since the People app(the app that ma
nages contacts) only works with online accounts, unlike
the Mail app which supports POP3, IMAP, EAS, and Exchange account protocols
    .

Contacts can be added to the Win10 People app by:
    a. adding a syncable account(s) - e.g. Outlook/Live/Hotmail/MSn.com or Offi
ce365 or Exchange, Google/Gmail, Yahoo, or iCloud.
    b. importing contacts from csv via the web UI People app for the respective
    Microsoft account
    c. manually adding contacts(one at a time) in the Win10 People app.

    More info here: <http://www.howtogeek.com/235421/how-to-add-contacts-from-gmail-outlook-and
    -more-to-windows-10s-address-book/>

    Thnks.
I have a couple of outlook/hotmail addresses that I only use for access to W10 and have no desire to inform/confuse 1000 people that I have a new address.
However pretty W10 Mail looks on my desktop, it's nevr going to import
those folders of addresses by the method from that link as 'People' app is not the solution for desktop.
I guess I'll have to stick with Outlook 2010 and do my serious emailing
from the desktop with Gmail and Email from my android for one-off mails. Thanks to folk who tried to help.

You can do all that in Outlook too - multiple accounts that is.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Outlook 2010 is the last
(oldest) version of Outlook that works in Windows 10 - earlier versions
    do not.
