• Windows 10 Fall Update

From Alan Zisman@1:123/789 to All on Sat Nov 14 14:28:56 2015
If you're using Windows 10 you may have heard that Microsoft has released a large 'Fall Update' with a mix of bug-fixes and feature improvements (etc)... It's slowly rolling out through Windows Update.

You can, if you wish, update to it now without waiting for Windows Update to decide that your turn has come. (As well, if you're currently running Win 7/8/8.1 and want to take the plunge you can get this latest version of Win 10).

    To do so, go to:
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
and download the Update tool - it will analyze your system (you need at least 8
GB free space on C: for instance), and then if you choose to proceed, will download and install the update version of the current Windows 10 release - in this case, the so-called 1511 version (i.e. November 2015) - the Fall Update.

I've just done this on the pair of low-powered HP Steam 11 note books that my wife and I have and it worked smoothly, respecting all our files, applications,
    and settings.

Afterwards, your previous Windows version will be in a Windows.old folder, allowing you to roll-back to the previous version if desired - that will be automatically removed in 30-days, or if you want to free up the space, you can run Disk Cleanup - clicking on the Cleanup System Files option and manually opting to remove Old Windows Versions.

Hello Alan. Long time but still here.

My version of W-10 says 1511 (OS Build 10586.3 ) Why the .3 instead of the normal .0 ?

I have been reading this echo, outdated as it is, all along. I have been on W-10 since onset, that is Oct 15 2014 so I was not too surprised to see you here still and active. I still do some IT help for friends, 7 of them are repeats from the C=64 times.

This W-10 version has been great for me, I really have no complaint at all, runs clean and quick. I have it on three of my many machines, all that could run it. Nice OS.

Not wanting to hurt your feelings, it has been quoted as quicker than any Mac. OK, I will wash my keyboard in soap.

Nice to chat at you again. Jean.

WinVer on my system also reports 10586.3 - I don't know why .3.... And my feelings are not hurt; quick is good, but it's not everything.

I wash keyboards in the dishwasher. If you use soap, be sure to give it a good rinse, and then leave it to dry for a long time.

    Hi Jean Parrot!

any Mac. OK, I will wash my keyboard in soap.
    You better! :)

I find that Macs are more fun to use but not for everyone. I personally hate working on Windows machines because it keeps locking up and being stupid :)

    Cheers,

I bought the Steam 11 on a Groupon offer for US$119 - which was, I thought, cheap enough to be worth getting just so I could experiment with Win 10. (And get a cheap laptop thrown into the deal....)
