• Thunderbird & XP

From Ed Vance@1:2320/105 to All on Thu Jan 31 22:48:00 2019
    Howdy!,

I still use Mozilla Thunderbird with a XP computer.

Occasionally I will have a problem after I press the Get Messages button.

Today it happened again and so far it still says failed to connect to server every time I tried to Get Email.

I spent some time at Mozilla Support reading page after page but couldn't
    find a solution.

    Any Ideas?

    Thanks,

    73 de Ed W9ODR . .

You've restarted your computer and updated Thunderbird? I'm running XP on a test box with Thunderbird and it works fine, so something must be broken somewhere along the way.

sounds like the server is down or it is rejecting your connection method in your tbird settings for that email server... maybe they don't like plain cleartext POP3 any more and are requiring secure sessions? your ISP would have more information if that's the case...

I restart the computer a few times a month, but usually I hibernate it.

Last night I tried a few more times by closing TB and opening TB again
but never got past the "failed to connect to the server" message.

    I hibernated it last night.

This morning TB worked when I clicked the [Get Messages] button.

    Thanks for the reply.

I have TB set for POP with a Secure Connection.

As I told Kurt, it worked this morning and also tonight when I checked for Email.

I usually hibernate XP when I'm finished with it, but I select the
Turn Off option about three times a month to 'freshen' it.

I hate it when it gets fresh with me. <G R I N>

Yes simple, Thunderbird (Mozilla) doesn't support XP any longer.
Hasn't done it for some time.

Also, If I remember correctly Thunderbird isn't anymore under the
    wings of Mozilla.
