• New Win32 BBS with v3.20?

From Alpha to All on Wed Apr 12 17:03:50 2023
Hey there... If I'm starting fresh with a Win32-based Synchronet BBS and wanted to use v3.20 (I'm OK with nightly builds!), is this the right sequence?

    1. Install v3.19b, e.g. using the Windows installer
    2. Go through normal setup e.g. w/Configuration Wizard
    3. Download sbbs_dev.zip and extract to sbbs/exec
    4. Run sbbs/exec/upgrade_to_v320.exe

This is what I've done, so probably something isn't right with those steps, ha. Upon running upgrade:

    ---
upgrade - Upgrade Synchronet BBS to 3.20

    Loading configuration files from C:\sbbs\ctrl
!ERROR loading configuration files: 2 (No such file or directory) opening C:\sbbs\ctrl\msgs.ini
    ---

    Any tips appreciated!

Just realized my error. I copied over /sbbs/ctrl from the git repo and it all started up :)

That should be a non-fatal error message from JSexec (it continues to run the update.js/upgrade_to_v320.js script). Did it create the ctrl/msgs.ini file? Then it worked.

I didn't see the download/extract of sbbs_run.zip in your list of steps. Maybe you just missed that one?
    step?

Yeah, as originally written, it was fatal. sbbs_run.zip I think is the missing piece.

I actually don't think the reported/pasted error message was fatal. JSexec v3.20 will complain about the missing msgs.ini file (as you showed), but it'll continue to run the script. It's just that your update.js was from v3.19, not v3.20.
