    Hi, Holger!

December 31 2019, Holger Granholm write All:

    Happy New Year,

    Holger

    Also Happy New Year Holger!

I restored MultiLine Sio2K/2 and FrontDoor/2 and GEcho/2 and PCBoard/2 and GoldED/2 after ten years and I had a lot of work with the IP connection.

Telnet port 23 is unusable, but managed to use port 2030 with Sio2K/2 and FrontDoor/2.

I'm not a programmer, so I got it difficult. Is there a possibility that the PCBoard can be connected via IP and port?

    Thank you for the advice.

    Bye
    Robin

    Hello again Robin,

    the IP connection.

I don't understand why you are using all those external programs when
almost everything is built-in into PCBoard.

If I remember it correctly there is software in the SIO package that
I used to connect to internet but I don't remember if I used the
connection for anything else than just mail.

In addition to the above I have checked my registered SIO v1.35 program
and it contains the VMODEM program that I use with PCBoard to connect to
    the Internet.

Nothing else was required for that.

Then again, I do use some PPE utilities that make it easier to use
PCBoard itself and for reading/replying to QWK messages the MR/2 program
for OS/2 but you can use MultiMail instead which is free and available
    for many operating systems.

At the moment I'm investigating BinkP to connect to the Internet but I
have other things to do that are more important at the moment.

    Have a nice day,

    Holger

    Hi, Holger!

    I restored MultiLine Sio2K/2 and FrontDoor/2 and GEcho/2 and
PCBoard/2 and GoldED/2 after ten years and I had a lot of work
    with the IP connection.

I don't understand why you are using all those external programs when almost everything is built-in into PCBoard.

The reason is simple. I only started with FidoNet and FrontDor and the necessary external programs. Only a year or two later I bought a PCBoard and used FrontDoor as a boot for PCBoard.

If I remember it correctly there is software in the SIO package
that I used to connect to internet but I don't remember if I used
the connection for anything else than just mail.

In addition to the above I have checked my registered SIO v1.35
program and it contains the VMODEM program that I use with PCBoard to connect to the Internet.

Yes, I also have a registered SIO program but I use v.1.6D and VMODEM to connect FrontDoor to the Internet.

More specifically, I should have. Today I use SIO2K v2.02 and eCS 2.2, not OS/2
    Warp.

Nothing else was required for that.

Then again, I do use some PPE utilities that make it easier to use
PCBoard itself and for reading/replying to QWK messages the MR/2
program for OS/2 but you can use MultiMail instead which is free and available for many operating systems.

I understand, but I've never used PCBard alone and for FidoNet. It has always been just a bulletin board, so I have no experience connecting PCBoard to the Internet independently without FrontDoor :-(

At the moment I'm investigating BinkP to connect to the Internet but I have other things to do that are more important at the moment.

Yes, BinkD is the only option today because Telnet and port 23 are useless today :-(

I have time, but again I do not have programming skills and I cannot set many things myself. Previously, my colleague helped me with everything he could, but
he doesn't deal with it anymore and I don't know English and I can't do anything without Google :-(

it must be noted that there is a huge difference between Frontdoor and Frontdoor APX... the former is a general purpose FTN mailer whereas the latter is an all-in-one point user app... the former can be run stand-alone or in front of a BBS whereas the latter cannot be used to handle mail calls for a BBS
    at all...

exactly. FrontDoor 2.32mL can be said for a professional and can do a lot, but requires external programs. For example, he worked for me 10 years ago as a
multiline for 4x US Robotics Courier and I was NC for the Czech Republic. FDAPX
is for end point and undemanding. In addition, I think that in Windows 64 bit does not even work :-(

FDAPX is a breeze, it can't run PCBoard, and if there's a coordinator in Fidonet, it can't use it and doesn't work in 64 bit.

Interesting. I have also considered either eCS or the one called
    BlueLion

eCS and BlueLion are only slightly upgraded Warp. Kernel is still the same :-( But I love OS / 2 and so mmsm eCS even though it is not cheap :-(

You don't have to use port 23. You can use port 2023 instead.

I worked for a long time and I couldn't persuade SIO and VM. Finally, Tomi from Belgium advised me, and FrontDoor dials through port 2030, but we didn't solve it to accept calls as well.

Yes I know. I have only used FDAPX as a point when at my office or beeing
away on a trip. Since everything is built-in in PCBoard I have never had
a need for something to start it up.

eCS and BlueLion are only slightly upgraded Warp. Kernel is

Yes I know about the prices and a little about what they do. The price
and the slowly dying Fidonet are the reasons why I have not upgraded to
    either program.

I understand, but I've never used PCBard alone and for FidoNet.

I have always used PCBoard for both my BBS and Fidonet. Actually I joined Fidonet some years after starting the BBS.

Yes, BinkD is the only option today because Telnet and port 23 are

It's not the only option and Telnet isn't dead yet.

I worked for a long time and I couldn't persuade SIO and VM.

Yeah I know how the APX works and I have only used it to connect to my

Sorry for such a late reply ~ the reason someone should use a different
tosser and mailer, are QFront has bugs, PCBoard/15.4 had bugs, and
well, the tosser does not handle any of the current special attributes
that are available now in the ^A kludge lines. This is one reason why I hadstarted rewriting the software ~ however, due to anxiety from other authors, my product changed names, and compatability.

PCB is still awesome in itself ~ I have a list of many PCB systems that
are still online ~ most not in Fidonet.

    Best Regards,
    Ozz
