• AdeptX BBS question

Is there anybody here who uses AdeptX/Orion BBS software?

What I would like to know is wether AdeptX can be made to somehow
trigger Injoy to connect to ISP, establish TCP/IP and exchange
news/e-mail messages automaticly, couple of times per day?

There was mentioned in the manual that there would be an Internet
connection package made available for that BBS software. Any information
about that, and in general, who would be kind enough to help me setup
that BBS, if I get stuck somewhere?

I decided to go for AdeptX/Orion software against BBBS, because from
reading both manuals I find BBBS setup to be completely beyond my comprehention. :-))

    Thanks in advance.

When I was running Adept I just set InJoy for DialonDemand mode. It would initialize the modem, and then just sit there. Mean while, Adept deals with inbound/outbound FTSC calls, and when it's time to hit the net, Adept does a simple tcp/ip connect attmept. Injoy flags that and dials out. Then when The event is done, Adept re-initializes the modem, forcing it to hangup. InJoy notices this and returns to Dial on Demand mode.

BBBS isn't that bad when you get the hang of it. It just takes patience. There's a ton of sysops who would be more than happy to help you out if you went over to the bbbs.english echo. Myself included.

    I use Adept adf111y.zip

I do not use Orion, since in spite of the more recent date, it never got
past the alpha/beta test stage, AFAIK. Too many reports of major problems
    with it.

If possible you should attempt to AreaFix the ADEPT_SYSOP echo, where you
    will find more help.

    Yes with an event.

Be careful with your FLAGS. In that case it closes the land line modem
port so that modem becomes free for use by InJoy. It also forces that
event to run and waits for it to finish before going to the next event.

establish TCP/IP and exchange news/e-mail messages

Although I avoid NewsGroups I do think that will work. As for E-Mail
AFAIK that would require a static IP address and a registered domain
name (although DynIP might work). I sold my domain name before I got
around to trying E-Mail directly into Adept.

I use Mr/2Ice for E-Mail and I could use that for NewsGroups as well.
But of course that does not post those msgs into the Adept msg-base.

automaticly, couple of times per d

NP I do just that 4 times per day. You need to setup an event in your event file, I will put mine in here.

    cd injoy
    in-joy.exe

You need to setup Injoy to automatically call up your email/news reader client after a connection is made. Once done voila automated news and mail retrieval

    Thanks in advance.

    No Problem

Hope this helps. Keep us posted.

We are a fine board trying to make it better.
