• Echomail not sending

From Andy Gorman@1:124/5014.2 to All on Wed Apr 7 09:23:51 2021
    Hi all,

I am new to Mystic and am setup as a point on FidoNet and a node on MetroNet. I'm receiving messages just fine, but when it comes to sending outbound messages, it's not working. I can see in the logs that they're getting packed but it doesn't look like the files are being sent. Here's my outbound event settings:

    Event Type: Semaphore
    Shell: mutil mail.ini|fidopoll send|mutil mail.ini
    Semaphore: echomail.out|netmail.out
    Kill After: echomail.out|netmail.out

My mail.ini is set to export and import echomail, pack message bases, and link messages.

I can send netmail and it seems to work because my AreaFixes have worked. Any idea as what I need to check?

    Thanks.

Quick update: It seems that I was wrong about netmail; it's not going out either.

    Thanks for the help!

What do the logs say? You should have a fidopoll.log (or poll.log if you're using the new MIS poll) and also a log of your export too.

What do you have setup in "Route Info" for 1:229/426?

    Mine is setup like so:

    Active | Yes
    Description | Dark Realms
    SysOp Name | Nick Andre
    Address | 1:229/426
    Domain | fidonet
    Session Type | BinkP
    Archive Type |
    Export Type | Normal
    Route Info | 1:* 2:* 3:* 4:*
    Direct Bypass | No
    Max PKT Size | 512
    Max ARC Size | 2048
    Use Filebox | No
    Filebox Dir |
    Crash Limiter | 0

This will tell Mystic to route any netmail for zones 1-4 through 1:229/426

Have you tried to set the loglevel to 3? It might give you more detail.

Its hard to tell without seeing how you have your Netmail base setup (what do you have set for the network address) and also what do you have set for the "netmail route info" field in the node configuration for your FidoNet hub? You'll need to tell Mystic that echomail zones 1-4 goto your FidoNet hub. If its not set try setting it like "Route Info: 1:* 2:* 3:* 4:*" so that Mystic knows to send netmail for zones 1-4 to that system.

I've got that setup just like you and Jay suggest. What I did notice is that MUTIL is not creating the packet when it scans. It updates the FLO file, but never creates that packet. Hopefully the logging will show something more.

Double check you have zip installed. That happened to me before when I didn't have zip installed, installed zip and it worked after that.

Thanks Al. I confirmed that I have zip (even went and got info-zip), but seems like mutil isn't creating the actual packet file. I watched the process today and the pkt file wasn't created in the temputil folder (which is what Zip is looking for according to the logs).

Can you double check to make sure you have zip.exe in your c:\mystic folder specifically?

If I go into c:\mystic and type "zip" I get this (try it on your system too):

    Copyright (C) 1990-1999 Info-ZIP
Type 'zip "-L"' for software license.
    Zip 2.3 (November 29th 1999). Usage:
zip [-options] [-b path] [-t mmddyyyy] [-n suffixes] [zipfile list] [-xi list]

As far as not seeing any temp files: If you notice the timestamp it shows that MUTIL starts up, reads all configurations, and scans and exports every message in every base all within 1 second. The amount of time a temp file would exist would probably be in the low milliseconds so it'd be easy to miss (possibly would never even show if you're looking in something like Explorer).

Mystic gives errors when it has a problem within its own processes but it cannot give errors for what archive programs do, so this is the most likely case for you since there are no errors reported by Mystic itself.

    Hi Andy,

I just finished updating the latest A47 so that when log level is set to debug it will try to read a result back from the operating system when executing an archiver during echomail import/export. It might come in handy in situations where an archive wasn't found or isnt installed correctly or something along those lines.

We'll get you sorted out here soon!
